Following on from my post last week (thanks for the help guys), I've finally got my Mediatored A1200 and XP Athlon talking to each other over a patch cable :-D
However, I'm STILL stuck with trying to find a way to get the PC to view the Amiga's drives and/or to mount the PC's drives on the Amiga side. As the Amiga Mediator site seems to be down, does anyone have any practical advice on how to do this?
Sorry if I'm being slow here but I've never done networking before and am rather new to it.... ;-)

A long shot, but... Are you running a firewall on the PC? I had to set some rules in Sygate Personal Firewall on my Win2000 box so that Samba would work properly.

Cheers guys.
I forgot to mention that I've installed Samba as per the instructions, and AFAIK it is started automatically when I initialise Miami?
Anyway, the XP box isn't set up as a firewall. Neither machine is connected to the Net...

what happens when you type
smbclient -L ?
smbclinet -L ?
smbclient -L -U username%xxx
xxx is the XP password
can you ping the Amiga from the PC ?
In XP got to add network
//xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/all
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the Amiga IP address
Then map it as a network drive eg:- Z:

its a long time since i touched a pc (windows) but i do remeber that the samba install was a pain in the ass , the manuals/docs simply aint good enough describing it all, so i sugest that you double check it all.
hopefully someone in the meantime will come up with a full walktrough for you :)

can you ping the Amiga from the PC ?
Yes!
Last night I managed to sucessfully ping the Amiga from the PC via the usual ping command in DOS.
I'll try adding the Amiga's IP addy and adding it as a network.
Sorry for the really naive questions here guys, but I'm totally green at this!

I suggest you do some googling for samba and Windows XP, as there's something weird about XP that you have to work around. By default, XP only shares the "My Shared Folder" or whatever it's called, with no password option if I remember, and will NOT share other drives/folders directly. It's perfectly able to share other locations with passwords if you like, but you have to jump through some hoops to enable that, I've seen how-to's for Linux sambaing to XP onthe net which you might find helpful for getting the Windows end working.

Hi PMC,
i don't know if this can help but there is a problem related to the encripted password in Win NT (don't know if in XP too).
There is a section in the Samba archive (Samba:Docs/textdocs/WinNT.txt), about the "NT4_PlainPassword.reg" file.
Ciao
