Title: CF hard disk
Post by: lassie on October 06, 2012, 12:39:17 AM
Hi i was wondering, can i take my CF Card with workbench games demo etc. and copy it onto my PC, and then copied it back to a new CF Card? and if so, will it all work if it is copied all at once. I think it will be good to have a backup.

I have a backup of my cf hd as it stood when i did a clean install of classic workbench 68k. So it has my Whdload key, roms and other bits of software ready. All I simply do is connect my cf card and load it as a hd in winuae, do the format and then copy everything over using my backup of workbench. Just use Opus to transfer everything over. It takes about 20 min with the amiga correct write speeds.

With MorphOS, you don't even have to have run UAE. Simply plug in your CF or SD card and off you go. The only thing you gotta watch out for is that you don't have the same directory names on your Amiga drive as you do in MorphOS.

I.E. My MorphOS partition is named "System" as is my Amiga OS partition. So when I plug in my SD card, my Amiga System directory cancels out my MorphOS system directory until I unplug it.

Never knew morph could do that. That's really handy to know and if I could afford to get it I would. But I will have to stick to uae for now lol.  I'm pretty broke right now after spending a fortune on a 6 core windows pc.

Understandable. Work with what ya got. I was just pointing it out because it's one of those features I found that really comes in handy. That, working with HDF, ADF, ISO, and so on. All with ease.

Thanks for all your input :) i will have a try soon, i just thought i could transfere it directly into my PC Hard disk, and then copy it back to a new CF card, but i can see than can not be done. so i will try some of the things you said :)

It is Amiga compatible, you know ;) It supports Amiga's RDB etc... 68k filesystems, libraries, devices, datatypes etc do work under it.

I use 68k SFS on my Amigas' CF cards and can just throw them into card reader in my MorphOS machines to copy, unpack and install stuff on them. Much faster than doing it on real 68k system. As a tip, use different identifier for 68k SFS so that it doesn't mix up with MorphOS native SFS if there are any compatibility issues.
