Title: Amiga 500 FDD in Amiga 2000
Post by: DiskChris on September 23, 2012, 03:47:28 PM
My Amiga 2000 floppy drive is having trouble... Can I swap it with the A500s drive?

Yes you can.

You would only have no status LED-function and ofcourse will be missing front plate. But if I remember correctly some drives were of identical type (some Chinon models like FB-354), so if you compare two and see more similarities than differences, you can swap that small pcb with led from old A2000 drive on A500 drive, then swap top metal shield so you can install that original front plate from A2000 drive.

Hope this helps.

Arttu80 is correct; if the A500 drive doesn't work well enough, new ones from Amigakit would leave a gap around the drive, so that is still an option.
