Intel is 5% faster in Passmark - so the are quite equal.

While you mention that gaming performance isn't an issue, the Linux drivers for the i3's video chip is horrible performance-wise. On the other hand, the i3 has a built-in MPEG4-decoder and some other goodies.

AMD has much better integrated graphics. Intel HD 3000 graphics is barely tolerable but HD 2000 sucks big. AMD HD6350D is a LOT better.

HD 3000 is more than adequate if you're not playing games (and for the record, it handles quite well as long as you turn the settings down a notch or two), and the OP stated that gaming performance isn't an issue.
Besides, the crucial factor when dealing with integrated video is usually memory performance. :)
AMD/ATI's superior Linux drivers might definitely be worth considering, though.

No one got fired for buying Intel.

Unless they're an ARM-developer. ;)
Regardless, both CPU's provide good bang for the buck.

Even though I just switched to Intel, if it was a option I'd buy the AMD product.
They need your support more then Intel.
