Thanks to a very generous donation from the recently new MorphOS user "Fraggle", the development of 3D drivers for Radeon R300 chipsets (found in Mac PowerBooks for instance) has now been Fast-Tracked!
Thanks to an unusual and generous financial contribution from William "Fraggle" Morris, Mark "bigfoot" Olsen has announced plans to fast-track the development of a 3D graphics driver for AMD/ATI's R300 chipset which is built into various Powerbook models and available on user-replaceable extension cards.
Mark confirmed to MorphZone exlusively: "I am happy to announce that Fraggle has made good on his offer and is sponsoring the R300 3D driver development with the generous sum of 2000 euro."
The MorphZone Team would like to thank all involved parties for their participation and hopes for a speedy release of the new drivers so all MorphOS users with compatible hardware can benefit from them.

Good news, so ... when can we expect 3D for PBs?
Cheers,
Dragster.

wow 2000 euros. He really want those drivers :)

Great news, that was a more then generous donation from Fraggle :)

What does Fast-Tracked means?
They will compose a relaxing track with FastTracker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FastTracker_2), so people will have something to listen to while waiting?!?
-
It is an English phrase.
Fast Track is an informal English phrase meaning "the quickest and most direct route to achievement of a goal, as in competing for professional advancement".

yeah, rite... I just hope it's really done *faster/sooner*... I haven't been motivated enough to register MOS for my Powerbook 1139 because of the lack of 3D and wifi support for it...
-
Mark told me completely done with vertex and fragment programmes and everything within 6 months.
-
This has always been in the works, but Fraggle's contribution has helped encourage faster development.
Remember, the R300 driver is not just applicable to Powerbooks.
I have a Radeon 9800XT in my FW800 and I'm greatly looking forward to 3D support.

Stay on topic.
And for future reference, it might be polite to ask someone if you can quote them in your signature, rather than just citing them to make a sales pitch.

So, about staying on topic...
And while I still have the tab open:
Posting Guidelines (http://www.amiga.org/index.php?pageid=posting_guidelines)
Name calling is best left to grade school. Moderator's judgment applies here. "You are wrong" is not a personal attack; "You are an idiot" is. "You do not have all of the facts" is not a personal attack; "you are obviously clueless" is. These are generalized examples, but you get the idea.
Where do you think your statement falls?

Just delete my account then - this place is **** now anyway.

@Karlos,
You always bring me back, for the lulz.......... ;D

This is great! This is only the beginning, as MorphOS's 3D capabilities improve, I can only imagine how our userbase will balloon.
-
That`s what I`m hoping...

Stupid question alert.
Mac Mini already has 3d drivers ? will this help us at all ?

Powerbooks and all computers with slotable gfxcard, i.e. PowerMac, Pegasos I & II, Efika. Mac mini, eMacs and Cube G4 will not benefit though.
R300 is way superior over R200.

It will help ME.
I don't have a Mac Mini.

Any info about any new PPC HW being made for MOS use?
-
I think there's sufficient supply of used Mac for it not to be a problem for a number of years.

Nobody has produced viable PPC Desktop/Laptop HW since in 2005/2006 or so, when Apple sent the last ones out of their door. PPC is a completely dead architecture today when it comes to Desktop/Laptop markets, but for MorphOS, that doesn't matter much at the moment, since the supply of cheap and powerful machines is anything else but a problem; you want tiny but powerful? Get a Mac Mini! Want a big box that's expandable? Get a PowerMac! Want a full-blown Laptop? Get a PowerBook! Ibook is going to be supported soon as well. So there is a whole flora of cheap, high quality, easily obtaine HW out there, that is highly viable for MorphOS! So, hardware is currently the least of problems...
