Title: Amiga naming history
Post by: hishamk on September 12, 2012, 06:31:55 PM
From http://munnecke.com/blog/?p=1090

"I was quite a fan of the Commodore Pet computer, and met Jack Tramiel, the CEO of Commodore at a trade show.  I mentioned the fact that I was considering starting “The Friendly Computer Company” based on my thinking in “Personal Genie” and he said, “that’s a great name.  I wonder if there is a computer name that is like this?”  We were at a trade show in Munich, and he pointed out that a name had to be suitable across languages.  I thought for a moment, and suggested, “Amigo.”   He said he liked the name, but it wasn’t quite right."

What he says doesn't jive at all with history as we know it. Amiga was named Amiga prior to Jack getting involved. He only later got involved post-Commodore at Atari, extending the $500k to "Amiga Corporation".

Yes, and Amiga the company existed long before Commodore set their sight on it. That blogger, Tom Munnecke, is just an egotistical a$$hole - notice he has commenting disabled because he knows he'll be called out.
