Title: Amiga 1200 - replace floppy drive ?
Post by: petercli on September 09, 2012, 12:28:30 AM
Trying to fix a amiga 1200 i bought untested.
Having trouble booting off a disk.

Typing info shows : DFO Unreadable disk

I tried this with serveral disks , so i assume the drive went bad .

How hard is it to replace a floppy. Is there any good place  to buy one ?( I live in the usa)

Thanks,Peter

Hi Dan,
I bought a liquid disk cleaner, no luck.
Next, I opened the case and reseated the data and power. still not luck.

when I power up, I hear a click every 3 seconds where it looks for a inserted disk.
but when I pop in a good floppy, and run info, it says dfo: unreadable disk.
For example :    http://www.flickr.com/photos/84872095@N08/7992368683/in/photostream

Maybe I  need to move the jumpsers  - this is what I have now : http://www.flickr.com/photos/84872095@N08/7992377498/in/photostream

where to buy a replacement floppy disk drive?

I thought about scavenging the floppy drive from my A600 , but the location of data and power are reversed.

Any ideas?
Peter

What disks are you trying?  Some games disks are unreadable from AmigaDOS - you're meant to boot from them.
