Hi i now have had my fist Amiga 1200 a few days and i must say it is a fine machine :) the man who had it before me has really taken good care of it. I hope i can get an Amiga 3000 next, but i will have to save up some money first. It is not free to collect Amigas and other computers, but it sure is nice to still have some of those machines we grew up with :)
-
I have a 1200 but I don't use it very often. since upgrading my 600 I spend most of my time on there. However if I had the money I would save up and get some mods for it. Such as a new cpu and scan doubler.

Hi how fast are your Amiga 600 and how much ram :)
-
It's in my sig ;) but I will recap for you :D
Amiga 600:
ACA 630/25 Stealth Accelerator (25mhz with 32mb fast RAM and switch attatched to dissable)
A604 Memory Expansion
Indivision ECS Scandoubler
4GB CF HDD
KS 3.1
HxC Floppy emulator.

That is quite a big Amiga 600 i must say :) it must be fast in booting up and such.

If the hdd is inserted then yes. If not then there is a slight delay (about 5 seconds) while it's trying to discover it and then gives up lol. But with the accelerator and hdd active it boots in seconds. And I have one of the classic workbench, 68k, packages installed. Which is a preconfigured workbench environment.
Also I have a different firmware installed on the ECS scan doubler and i have it running at 800x600 and looking really good.

Sounds like a nice machine, you must have some fun with it :) is your Amiga 1200 just stock now?
-
Yeah it's stock. It's a bit like the family silver. It only comes out on special occasions.

But you can always tune it up :) when you have the time and money of course.

I also have an Amiga 600 with 4 gig cf hard disk and scandoubler and A 604 chip mem. and 2 mb sram. I got it a month ago. I like it is so small :) but i am having trouble with whdload, i must turn off preload for many games for them to work, but still i am very glad for it :)

Time is not such an issue. It's money and some of the stuff for the 1200 have silly price tags. The only thing I would want to do at the moment is replace the hdd with a cf hdd.

Yes things can be quite expensive for A 1200. But you could get a cf hdd for it those are quite cheap.

But if you could find a 4 meg or 8 meg ram card to a fair price, then you will have a nice Amiga 1200 along with the cf hdd

For what I use of it at the moment then the cf hdd is enough lol. I could dump whdload on it though.

Can you run Doom on your amiga 600 now it is so fast? or have you not tried that

Yes you could do that :)

An 030 at 25 mhz will probably run Doom but not very fast. The ACA accelerators have pretty fast RAM, which undoubtedly helps some.

Hi i want to ask are there any different in speed between a new and old accelerator. Lets say an 3630 cpu from the 90`s and a new cpu made in the last couple of years, also with a 030 cpu and the same Mhz and with the same ram. Are the newer cpu faster or is it the same? just something i have been thinking about
-
The CPU's are no different but the memory (RAM) used in modern accelerators such as the ACA range is much faster resulting in faster processing.
