Title: Amiga 1000 + SDCard HxC Floppy Emulator?
Post by: dudeslife on August 30, 2012, 11:32:17 PM
Can the Amiga 1000 kickstart off of this thing? So I no longer need my internal floppy? This sounds too good to be true.. does the floppy cable and ps come with it? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I got one of those floppy emulators for my A500, and it does work fine. It only came the hardware piece, no cables, i had to get a longer floppie & power cable.
Addicional info on the website, and thats it. It should work on A1000, good luck.

Power is supplied using the same cable the current floppy drive uses. Same as the ribbon cable. Once you have the kickstart image use the conversion software to convert to the .HFC file format (this is what the hxc reads) and off it goes.

check this (http://www.torlus.com/floppy/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=663)

Honestly I love mine. Download a .ADf and convert using the simple software to .HFC and stick it on a sd card. The onscreen display allows you to navigate through folders and you can even download a file manager for it.

It's up to you how you mount this device. I have seen some internal mods but you can buy it in a premade box which can be left outisde the Amiga.

Where would I find the floppy cable and power supply if I buy from his eBay site? I am in the USA. Thanks.

I just used the floppy cable that was already in the Amiga. Same as the power cable. However I think Amigakit may have some cables.

so I can't just plug into the external floppy port?

I have seen mods done to old external floppy drives where the broken floppy internals were replaced with the hxc and hooked into the existing cables withing the floppy housing. Check this thread out at eab for something similar.

How is progress on this? I am also looking into picking up the emulator and I am wondering how will it play with A1000.

there is a 3 1/2 inch bay version now. So there will no need to mod anything as it should go into the existing A1000 bay. I am also curious to see how the work has gone on. I have run the relokick without issue so I don't think the 1000 kick disk should have any issues.

Well, not really since you would have to butcher A1000 front bezel. The 3.5 version is great for mounting in an external case however combined with a boot selector (so the computer boots from external floppy).

The question is: can Kickstart be loaded from the emulator?
