Hi all.
I found two IBM 93G2856 Hdd 4GB 3H scsi 50 pin with firmware HP24 and the price for both isn't so high, the question is: is there someone who knows if this model is compatible with GVP Impact Series II external HD?
thanks.

Short answer is don't know.
I did a search and this lists as a 4.5GB drive. You really need to know the heads/cyls info for the drive and compare that with the GVP card maximums. If you can't find that info out there's one sure way to find out.
Your probably safer with a known 2GB or 4GB drive. Quantum and Seagate from the early to mid 90s both seem to be safer bets.
Alternatively you could go the SCSI-CF Card adaptor option.

Hi gertsy, thanks for the fast reply, my goal is to use an hard disk larger than 20mb (the one equipped with the gvp) but I must admit that I'm a newbie :)
could you plz tell me more of the adapter you are talking about?
thanks.

I have used IBM SCSI drives with my GVP cards, but they weren't quite that big. One was 4Gb, another 2Gb and the latest is only 200Mb.
Make sure the SCSI chip on your card is at least v 4.13. You really should get the latest 4.15 since they are available.

Some of the Atari fanbois are using this adapter and at least one Amiga user has used it in his A4000...

I have just opened the GVP card and inside there is a FASTROM 4.0, what problems can I have with this version?

It's a little expensive but it could solve my problems, thanks for the tip

I've this
http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/impact500mk2
And inside of it has IBM 4,2gb HD, works without problems. Try to look from eab, there is a thread where somebody tried hundreds of gb hd with GVP SCSI, without problems, if partition size is max 2gb. Means tens, maybe hundres partitions.
I've no idea wich fastrom it has

Hi ultri007, we have the same card, by reading a few post on EAB i discovered that the ROM 4.15 is required only for hard disks larger than 4gb so I think and hope that the IBM I ordered works correctly. As soon as I'll be able to do some tests I'll post the result here.
thanks again for all the reply :)

The hard drive I was talking about is finally here but my GVP Impact series II doesn't regnize it at all and I was wondering if it depends on an incorrect setting of the jumper.
The image below shows the jumper settings in detail.

You never stated which OS you were using as 3.9 supports hardware better than 3.1/3.5. I have GVP II series SCSI controller with Mech's (http://www.A4000T.com) SCSI Card reader (~62 USD RANGE) and it reads at least up to 16GB cards on it, compared to a SCSI HDD, it seems just as fast and is quiet. It allows me to plug in a CF card with a different OS and boot into it. It is also hot swappable. The HDD in that A2000 is no challenge, just a 500MB Seagate, and a DVD ROM in the lower bay. I mostly use the CF card with storage on an inexpensive SD card. Oh, I'm using GVP ROM V 4.15

I'm sorry you right, I'm using Workbench 3.1 and my GVP rom is 4.0.

I'm afraid the HDToolbox in OS 3.1 will have issues with you HDD's; you know anyone who can format and partition them first (using OS 3.9 + BB2 or OS 4.1)?
After that they should be OK; I don't know about your GVP ROM version, but 3.1 will see them as regular hard drives. I boot into 3.1 or 3.5 to mess with WHDLoad on my A4000 and the A4091 could care less. The GVP VER 4.15 on my A2500 does fine with >4GB CF cards under 3.1 but they are formatted in OS 3.9 BB4.
