Hi i have an Amiga 2000, with 2630 cpu, and i was thinking can i play AGA games on that setup? i also have 9 mb ram and 1 giga hard disk.
-
No AGA chipset means no AGA-specific games.

No

...Alien F1 demo (AGA/RTG) did play on accelerated ECS A500 with 2 MB Chip...
-
Anyone here ever try it with a Retina Z2? :P

most AGA games don't have ECS or RTG versions. so, no.

Some AGA versions, aren't actually AGA versions ;) I mean that games like Jungle Strike AGA doesn't need AGA chipset actually, just 2mb chip

Thanks for your input :-)

Same for Primal Rage, it says AGA, but it works on A3000 (maybe A600, but I did not try) because it needs 2MB chip RAM.

I read on another thread that AGA should have been released in 1989 in order for it to make a real difference. In 1992 it was too late. Ideally the A3000 and A500+ should have been with AGA. Therefore wouldnt it be great if we could have our amihas as should have been? Is it really that hard to have/emulate AGA on pre 1992 amigas?
-
Some will, some will not - depends on how the game was written. Some one really should create a data base of this topic.

It does indeed work on A600 with 2MB chip.
Also, some "AGA" games require 020+ CPU, but will work with ECS chipset.

Hmm, I need to try that on my A500 with 2M Chip..
It's got no accelerator tho, so will be interesting..
I agree, a list of games and "actual" requirements would be awesome!!

Fightin' Spirit is another "AGA" game that runs on OCS/ECS. Very impressive game.
-
1: Some games require AGA because they are AGA only titles (alien breed 3D f.x.)
2: Some games had both versions and would adjust to the chip set present (alien breed tower assault f.x.)
3: Some games were ECS games that required 2 MB RAM, so were sold as AGA to avoid A500 owners buying them (Dungeon Master 2 comes to mind)
-
Never knew that. Just assumed AGA meant you needed the Chipset. But it makes sense.
-
Should "Dungeon Master 2" work on, let's say, a plain 68000 ECS + 2MB chip Amiga, then? Or does it contain 68020 code?

Im pretty certain I've read people running it on a 600 with 2 mb ram

Do try, it will be interesting to see for sure. But maybe it requires ECS.

A decent list of games with minimum requirements would be cool.
Kickstart, RAM, chipset. NTSC/PAL. Maybe add WHDload RAM requirement to preload.
hmm
