Title: Question about Editor in WB3.1
Post by: djos on August 05, 2012, 07:15:41 AM
trying to edit my startup-sequence file with KS/WB3.1 (booting from floppy) and all im getting is "Editor" followed by a colon ":" on the next line - not sure what im doing wrong as when I used my 2.04 rom and 2.04 WB disk i got a fairly traditional text editor.

Am I just being a n00b? :o

"ed s:startup-sequence" typed in a CLI/Shell window should do the trick.

"Edit" is a completely different command.

Another n00b question, what do I run to enable reading PC Disks? I assumed it was the dos drivers on the storage disk?

Yup there should be PC0 and PC1 in storage/dosdrivers but these will only give access to 720k floppies (unless you have an HD-drive) while most PC-floppoes were 1.44MB.

Is there any trick to using them? (double clicking on PC0/PC1 doesnt seem to do much)

All you should need to do is fire up the driver by double clicking on it in, or putting it in the devs/dosdrivers drawer..  PC0: for DF0:
Then insert a 720K formatted IBM disk and it should come up.

If not, something else is wrong.

Ohh BTW if you want to format a 720K disk in Windows use this command : format a: /t:80 /n:9

Don't forget to cover the HD Tab !!!

Thanks, I do have a bunch of DD floppies already so I'll give them a go.

nice one, that explains why right click format doesn't seem to work on DD floppies. :D

I use VI, its much more powerful then ED. You can find it on aminet, its probably called VIM.

Cheers Ben, I'm operating without my CF-IDE ATM while I finish my combo DVD/CF/PSU unit so if it not on floppy it's not getting used ATM. :D

Not sure what im doing wrong, but all I get when i put in a DOS 720k Floppy disk is "DF0:????" - I copied the PC0 and PC0.info files into the devs/dosdrivers folder, rebooted, tested to see if the driver was loaded by double clicking on PC0 (it was), but it doesnt seem to work.

I believe I should get a "PC0:" disk mounted (instead of DF0:) but I dont.

Check if you have the required filesystem in L: (crossdosfilesystem or whatever).

Thanks, i'll have a look.

Thankfully today I made a null modem cable and got Amiga Explorer working, it's slow but really handy! :)
