Title: Setting up my amiga
Post by: SIR-GERMAN on August 02, 2012, 12:07:20 AM
I have not play with my Amiga 4000 since 2005 , the year I got married , anyway I feel that is time to set up my Amiga 4000 with a crt tv so I have a few questions .

1) before I put the 4000 away , I remember that the battery was leaking so I remove the battery I snapped it with some pliers  , I guess I have to do some welding , what kind of battery does it take ?

2) I think i have a  device to connected to the tv,  is not a Commodore: A520 but something similar with chroma luma , so I need a cable chroma luma to s-video , any idea where to get it ?

1. You don't need the battery, it's only used for clock, unless you want clock on your system.
2. Chroma-Luma is Svideo, do you have 2 RCA connections or standard SVideo socket on you TV board. Pictures?

I have a normal tv with s-video , but the Amiga modulator has chroma luma outlets , so I need a cable chroma luma to s-video.
Now that i remember the modulator and the Amiga keyboard wont fit at the same time , because the modulator is too wide , I was thinking of buying a cable to extend the modulator , any idea what cable do I need ?

You'd need a DB23 extension(male<->female) cable.

Because you are from Germany, get old/second hand LCD-TV with scart connector, they are cheap as dirt :) With it you can get solid/rock steady, flicker free hi-res picture.

I think the only way for you is to make it your self with these http://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-of-DB23-Male-Female-Connector-23-PINS-For-Commodore-Amiga-500-1000-2000-/320955508620?pt=US_Vintage_Computers_Mainframes&hash=item4aba70678c
You could buy another SVideo adapter from here: http://www.amigamaniac.com/RGB_to_PAL_NTSC_adapter.html

I'm not sure, but I have another idea for you.
If you're good with solder, You can get these CGA to VGA adapters from EBAY GBS-8200 http://www.ebay.com/itm/CGA-EGA-YUV-TO-VGA-arcade-video-converter-US-Seller-/320901703710?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab73b681e
Works great with standard VGA monitors.
I made a writeup how to make it work if you're interested.

It's not the BEST, but better then others, and cheap.

It work well in PC monitor.
Here is a thread on EAB with some pics and video. I made a box for it too, so the electronics would not be exposed. Many people got it to work, externally and internally.
