Title: amiga <> linux null-modem cable
Post by: Mabel on January 19, 2004, 11:32:20 AM
I've got the cable , I've set up 'Term' on the Amiga side , but now I need a bit of help on the Linux side.
All the linux progs that I have tried, expect to see a modem on the other end of the cable.
Can you suggest a good 'terminal' pog for linux.
The cable works fine, as I used it before from a PC to Amiga , and also PC to PC as well as Amiga to Amiga.

Minicom. I've got it running permantly on TTY5 configured to COM1 so I can control my "other" linux box when I need kernel debug output or I've mangled it's NIC/runlevel/whatever so bad that I can't SSH.

If you're using a shell over NULL modem cable from Amiga to Linux, don't forget to set the TERM environment variable.

export TERM=ansi _or_ if that doesn't work as expected perhaps:
export TERM=vt100. Depends what your miggy's term emulation is set to.

Of course, there's still zmodem etc. file transfer 'n stuff you would expect from normal term. programs.

I mostly need help on setting up 'mincom', as every time I try, it's looking for a modem on ttyS1. My modem real is connected to ttyS0.
I am fairly new to linux, so a lot of the commands for minicom are a bit strange at the moment.
