Before installing my Amiga 500 motherboard into a tower case, I would like to first replace all of the capacitors with new, higher quality, Nichicon capacitors. There are two 3,300 uF 10 volt caps near the power connector. I assume that they are for filtering the voltage from the power supply. My question is this:
Can I use "audio" caps for filtering psu voltage? Anotherwards, there are two Nichicon caps, one is a 3,300 uF 50V Electrolytic, and the other is a 3,300uF 50v Nichicon Gold "audio" Electrolytic cap. Can I use the audio version to filter the incoming power supply voltage? What is the difference between "normal" electrolytic caps and "audio" electrolytic caps? Also, the original 3,300 uF caps are rated at 10 volts, these newer caps are rated at 50 volts, can I use them?
My next question is this:
The two "problem" caps in the Amiga 500's audio circuit. Can I replace them with Nichicon Muse Bi-Polar audio electrolytic caps?
Also, anyone know where I can find the Nichicon low profile capacitors? The lead spacing on these caps fit the Amiga 500 motherboard better, so the caps will not be sticking up in the air or bent over. It is this or get higher voltage caps (same uF values) in order to get the proper lead spacing.

Not sure what the difference is with "audio" capacitors , but you can use higher voltage ratings with no problems.

Using "audiophile" grade capacitors in any computer is a waste of time, just use any decent replacement cap as the difference is essentially Zero!!!

You are wrong about that. Besides, the question is, can I use an audio grade cap in place of a standard cap, and what is the difference between the two kinds of caps?

Audiophile grade caps are made to higher tolerances but if the circuitry is not designed to take advantage then there is no point.
To be honest audiophile gear is mostly marketing BS anyway, the prices charged are simply not reflective of the quality of the equipment. Eg Several of the big names have been caught re-casing everything from Oppo (very good but affordable brand) to lg bluray players and tweaking the firmware slightly is the only real change when you open them up.

Ok, so from what you are saying, I can use audio grade caps instead of the standard caps.

You can but there is zero benefit, just buy top quality "normal" caps, they'll last as long and perform just as well for half the money!

Some of the "normal" caps are not available in the size I need, but, they are available as "audio" versions. That is why I was asking if I could use them instead. Also, I wil have to use caps with higher voltage ratings, in order to get the leads spacing I need. I want the caps to lay flush on the board, not sticking up in the air or bent over, like Commodore did them. So, that is why I was asking about being able to use caps with higher voltage rating but same uF ratings.

As long as all the specs match up you'll be fine.
