So I got my 80Mhz Apollo 060 back in the mail.
I wanted to reinstall Workbench from scratch, but EVERY SINGLE floppy disk claims to have a bad sector 21 when I try to do a full format, or if I try a quick format it will tell me it is not a DOS disk.
Well no crap it ain't a DOS disk, that's why I'm try to format it. Grrrr!!
So I plugged in my external floppy but get the same old song and dance.
Also, the copies of Workbench that I made on this same machine 3 months ago will no longer read. WTF? :/
On a side note: what EXACTLY do I need to do to mount a HDF image under WB3.1?
Since I can't use floppies (for some reason), maybe I can install WB3.1 to a HDF image under WinUAE, then copy that HDF to my cf card, copy a start up disk with drivers for cf0: to RAD:, boot off that, format HD0:, mount HDF image, copy contents to hd0: and be happy?

Wow, that is weird! But if you want a quick headache then try to upgrade any Amiga. I can only suggest the obvious: switch machines; place your Apollo another A1200 or another accelerater in yours; if they pass that test then you are dealing with a bad Floppy controller chip

Why make things complicated?
In WinUAE, you can mount a RAW device directly as device for the emulated Amiga system. Thus, plug in a CF Card reader to your PC, put in the CF Card (unformatted) and just mount it as RAW in WinUAE; You can boot then Workbench from the ADF images and install to the CF Card as you would do on a real Amiga (including partitioning etc.), then simply put the CF card in your real machine and it boots like it's always been in there :)
Also, i usually keep a image of that card, by adding a "File HDD" as DH1 and copy everything from DH0 to DH1 in case i need to restore the original status. Lately I've started working on my installations on the File HDD in WinUAE and copy it when iam done with my updates/installing stuff, but either way should solve your problem way more efficient then the method you described above.
Good luck!

Did you take the Apollo out and test the drive?

I used to be able to set up my SD and CF cards in WinuAE, but now a days I get the elusive error 7 EVERY TIME, EVERY CARD!! :/
Anyhow, what I did was hook up a drive from my 2000. Remade my disk set, I.E. A boot disk that supports the PFS file system, 040/060 libs, support for my PCMCIA compact flash reader, and Lha.
Put my original 1200 drive back in, and now all is well, the drive reads the disk fine again.
How freaking weird!!!

if .hdf is raw image, in theory, you should be able to use Amiga version of dd and copy to internal hdd. note that it would overwrite all partitions. I'm not sure if its good idea, because various disks have various information in RDB.
anyway, using CF in winuae directly is simpler.

Have you considered the possibility of a virus? I got one not long ago off a cd of backups that I had lying around.

Hi,
@XDelusion,
You might want to take that drive apart and clean it up some, I have a feeling that the head has something jammin it up around track 21, might be the reason for not reading your old work bench disks too.
Use alcohol for the cleaning, and NO I don't mean beer, whiskey etc. but if you have that stuff I know a bunch of loonies looking for a party, just think of all the people you will have over your house to help you, and who knows one of us may have a disk drive that works.
