Hi All,
I have decided this month to start a blog focused on the AmigaOne X1000 system.
It includes tips and tricks I have learnt to get stuff working on the X1000, applications or utilities of interest on AmigaOS 4.1.5, and general X1000 information of possible help or interest to current or future AmigaOne X1000 users.
The website is http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/ (http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/)
Already there are a couple of Game reviews, AmiCygnix 1.1 setup how-to, HP Printer setup how-to, Inside X1000 pictures and HD upgrade setup info, mui-owb, mui-mplayer how-to, how to change default image viewers and more too!
I am adding new content as I try more stuff out, and I have a backlog of stuff already done to add in, so expect to see a lot more content added reasonably regularly to what is already there.
I hope over time it will ultimately be useful, helpful or interesting to somebody out there. If nothing else it allows me to collect tips and tricks I learn in one place for easy reference later on.
:-)

Almost makes me want to buy one, almost :-)
-
Actually if I could walk into a local store and pick one up on an interest free HP deal like other PCs (and back in the 90's with classic Amiga's) I'd buy it :-)
The upfront cost is not something I could afford.

Very cool man. Fun!
-
Extremely good read, thanks for sharing.
-
Good for you, I think it will be quite "the X1000 resource" for years to come!
-
@ Epsilon
glad to see your blog on this site as well (let's hope the usual suspects here don't ruin it). It's a well written & concise resource for new & potential X1000 owners. cheers to you for taking the time to make it:drink:

@All
Thanks for your kind words about my blog so far.
I have since updated my blog with several new articles covering:
* Running Delitracker on the X1000
* Classic Amiga Emulation on the X1000 (including Emulated Amiga System HD setups)
* How to get YouTube Videos working under MUI-OWB on the X1000.
If you are interested please take a look at these articles and more on my blog on http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/
I hope some of this information is useful for you too!

Nice blog, i really like it.
So this X1000 is a real Amiga then. I had seen it a while ago but wasn't sure if this is really an Amiga with some backward compatibility.
Not even sure how much they run, since i did not dare to put me on their waiting list.
Its nice to see that there are still people using an Amiga all day. If i have money, i might buy one. Right now i to broke. :(
I like the tip with html5. So simple but it never occurred to me.

@ Epsilon
wow that info on mui-owb and youtube videos is priceless info...never would have thought of that so many thanks:pint:

@klx300r
Thanks for this - I am really glad the YouTube setup information was useful for you! :-)

Hi All,
Today I have added a game mini-review of Hurrican 1.0.6 using Wazp3D on the X1000.
It also includes some installation help for Wazp3D as part of the review for those who don't have it installed as yet - Wazp3D is needed to run Hurrican on the X1000 at the moment, until we have the 3D graphics drivers.
You can take a look at the lastest blog entry at: http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/game-mini-review-hurrican-106-with.html
I hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for your kind words about my blog! The X1000 is a lot of fun!
@all
I have updated my blog today with two entries:
The first entry is about running AmiCygnix applications in Standalone mode (windowed) under AmigaOS4 on the X1000 (and how to create your own standalone scripts for applications without a standalone launcher.
http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/running-amicygnix-standalone.html (http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/running-amicygnix-standalone.html)
The second is about PixelOz's fine Amiga HD wallpapers that have now been added to my X1000! It looked so good I had to share it!

Hi All,
Today I have added a new blog entry on running Timberwolf RC1 on the X1000, positives and negatives, html5 compatibility testing and including various add-ons that work with it well. Hope you enjoy it!
1st entry is here:
http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/timberwolf-rc1-web-browser-on-x1000.html (http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/timberwolf-rc1-web-browser-on-x1000.html)
Update 22/7/2012 - I have now added a second entry related to the timberwolf RC1 coverage on my blog, covering additional add-ons and personas that work on Timberwolf. Had a lot of fun getting this setup nicely!
2nd entry is here:

If you are going to make a post here every single time you write a post there, why don't you simply copy/paste the actual article here as well instead of just links? A thread full of only links to posts is worthless IMHO and a bit degrading to the amiga.org forums and its purpose, that is about content and discussions, and not about links to simply leech traffic. I think you would have more readers as well; you'd have to be really interested to leave the site and start reading elsewhere (I haven't bothered to click your links, and I know I'm not the only one), while many people casually reads what's on the front page on this site even if they aren't 100% within their scope of interest.

Degrading to A.org, as opposed to you bitching about any post that doesn't float your boat or further your agenda of "facts!" and "real world experiences!".
I enjoy his updates. Should that ever change, I can choose to not follow this thread. I'm subject to them just like I'm subject to your MOS spam and derails in completely unrelated threads.
Suck it up - don't read what you don't want to. Your most hypocritical post yet TMHG, against a guy just trying to show his enthusiasm in a relevant way, but since it's not "The Holy Path" it's whine time for you.
If you're gonna be a turd, at least be a consistent turd. And with that, I'll be waiting for you to make similar complaints against 10 page "trivial" threads about your OS of choice. I suspect Hell will freeze over before that happens. Quit being such a mean spirited jerk just because the content does not interest you.

Wow, did my post really inspire you to write all this?
Really?

This fellow came to A.org, to share his Amiga experiences on an Amiga related site. He's doing so in a very friendly way, using the place as intended - for Amiga discussion. Many people come to A.org for the wider scope Amiga coverage it offers. I'm one of them that likes the "big picture" aspect of A.org.
Some content may or may not be of interest to everyone - it obviously is of no interest to you, TMHG - just as legacy Amiga stuff is of little interest to me. That's fine. Most people simply don't read threads that don't interest them. That's the adult way of doing things, rather than saying discouraging things like "a bit degrading to the amiga.org forums and its purpose". Please indulge us and give your opinions on what the purpose of A.org is? I always thought it was just a general purpose Amiga site.
If he chooses to give current links to his entirely related to Amiga blog posts rather than post them in their entirety, an individual can - again, choose to simply not read them if they do not interest a person. The discussion is entirely Amiga related, and it's not like he's spamming them as news or announcements. If they don't interest you, don't read them, it's pretty simple and there's no need for disparaging comments.
Yeah, these posts really did "inspire me to write all this", because you are being a selective jerk that is suddenly seemingly incapable of filtering out posts based on your own personal interests. His posts are as topical as anyone elses here, and should they become of little interest to me, guess what - I can choose to simply not read the thread. It's better than making snide comments to a fellow implying he's abusing the place, which he isn't.
It's a lot easier than being a jerk and trying to spin the angle that because something doesn't interest me that it is "degrading" A.org.
I fail to see how content that is of no personal interest to yourself is somehow deemed "degrading" by yourself. Don't read it, maybe? It's a general purpose Amiga forums site, man - relax. No need to start browbeating people's efforts and enthusiasm, or worse yet - making claims of traffic driving via links - because the content is of no interest to you.
Sorry to the OP for derailing the thread, last you'll hear from me on it. I personally am enjoying his writings and will be reading new entries regarding his experiences with his new machine.
-
tl;dr
My God, are you on drugs? Seeing things that aren't there?
I merely suggested that a quick copy/paste of the actual content here to amiga.org would be worth a lot more to this sites visitors than a (if the trend continues) endless long thread containing nothing else but links to content. It would require no more effort than posting the link, it would bring the amiga.org users real content, and it would most certainly result in a lot more people bothering to actually read his texts. Which I think is the point, right? It's not like it wouldn't be a "blog" anymore, the websites are just carriers, the messages is the essence.
BTW, may I suggest you talk to your doctor about increasing your daily dose of Xanax? Your behavior here is crazy over the top...

@Duce
Well said.

I haven't bothered to click your links
If you had done so you might have seen that Epsilon's rather comprehensive blog articles (incl. screenshots and the like) aren't really suitable for a more less standard forum post engine like amiga.org.
no more effort
The opposite is true, generating nicely layouted blog articles are easy using a suitable blog environment while trying to do something like this here at amiga.org might work out into a pain in the a**.
degrading to the amiga.org forums
Yep, there are things that degrade Amiga.org, but that's another story and has no correlation to Epsilon's articles.
-
I'd hate to get this back on topic, but I enjoyed reading the blog, even though I don't own any OS4 machine.
Added a link to you, on my own blog.

Personally I don't have X1000 or OS4, but I read his blog regardless because it interests me...and he's done a damn good job of it.
I prefer the update summary he writes, as compared to your suggestion of screen loads of blog which I don't believe is at all suitable for Amiga.org...and you know it don't you?

Are you retarded? Doesn't your MorphOS browser allow you to open a link in a new tab? This feature exists so that you don't have to navigate away from the current page you are reading (Amiga.org).

I have no issue with Epsilon posting about his blog entries here, although I don't understand why he does so. It seems like if anyone was that interested in the blog they would just check it frequently and/or subscribe to the associated RSS feed (assuming his blog host supplies one). I mean, heck, by the same token I could post a message here every time I post one over on moobunny - makes as much sense.
However, I do think the name of his blog is misleading as it appears most of, if not all, the posts are about OS4 software which isn't specific to the X1000. I see nothing on the blog that doesn't equally apply to a SAM running OS4, a Pegasos running OS4, or a Teron running OS4.
-
Well having discussions about a given topic is easier here, and frankly it'll give him some more visibility.
If amiga.org was drowning in posts, maybe thatd be something to be concerned about.

@all
I have been busy with my X1000 of late and have written several new blog entries. I have taken note of the feedback here (thank you) and waited until I had written a few articles of potential interest before updating the thread.
The latest one covers the installation of a Radeon 9250 PCI card and PCI-e to PCI bridge on the X1000 to finally play 3D hardware accelerated games on my X1000 and also have a dual display system. Very happy with this result! More testing to some of course!
http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/installing-dual-display-radeon-9250-pci.html (http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/installing-dual-display-radeon-9250-pci.html)
Another entry relates to base configuration and what to expect running C64 emulation using VICE on the X1000:
http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/commodore-64-emulation-on-x1000.html (http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/commodore-64-emulation-on-x1000.html)
I also did a followup post on Timberwolf RC1 discussing some more add-ons and getting Japanese support working:
http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/continuing-with-timberwolf-rc1-on-x1000.html (http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/continuing-with-timberwolf-rc1-on-x1000.html)
I hope these are interesting to read.
I do respect the fact that some people are not interested in this blog, have no questions or constructive feedback and that is fine - please ignore this thread.
There is a lot of activity in the AmigaOne X1000 world right now, and it is an exciting time to be an Amigan with an X1000.
I am keen to share my experiences with those who are interested to read about them and learn about some things they may want to try themselves or maybe a problem I fixed solves an issue they were having too!
I know some people here are interested in my X1000 ramblings, and I am very grateful for that.

Such as...?
All the articles you linked are about software which also runs on SAMs, Terons, Pegasos, etc. What activity is there happening in the X1000 world? Is support for the onboard hardware coming soon? Has someone started producing useful cards for the Xorro slot? Are there some Xena projects you're referring to?

Like several people here above, you seem to (Purposely? Probably!) misread my post into something like "X1000 posts shouldn't be here, nobody is interested". I am truly puzzled by this. Never have I said that you shouldn't post your stuff about X1000 here, and of course people are interested. What I said was actually that you should post *more*! Think about that! More! So cut that martyr crap! What I said was that a "web forum" without any contents of its own but only references to contents off-site, would be a very boring "forum", and that you would actually have more readers if you instead of just posting links, actually posts the contents! More people reads a real post than follows some boring link off-site! And it's not difficult at all if you already have the content created already! But fine, go on creating your little "link collection" here then. Hopefully at least some people will bother to click your links. I merely made a friendly suggestion that people purposely wanted to turn into something evil-spirited, when it in fact was made in best of intentions!
The remaining Amiga community is getting "funnier" by the hour...
-
Hi Epsilon, many thanks for the blog updates! Some very useful stories for a soon to be X1000 owner! :)
However I must complain about the wasted calories and the 0.0001 seconds it took to click on a link to your blog... ;)

Nothing huh? I didn't think so.
Intrestingly there recently was a complaint on the Yahoo group about the same thing: Lately there hasn`t been much activity. But I think that, given the small percentage of people who were willing to save their earnings to buy an X1000, we are foolish to expect great news every week. When you are a single software developer you are lucky if you write something worthwhile twice a year.
