Walked away from my computer for 5 minutes, came back to a screen full of error, restarted in safe mode and it appears all my antivirus software has been deleted. Nice.

hmmm...i can't prove it but when i heard Amibay.com was back i tried to log on using both links, everything looked ok and my anti-virus software didnt pick up anything (MS Security Essentials)  however now the PC is running very slow and couple of applications (media player and skype) froze and closed down :(

is MS Sec Essentials good anti-vir software, i used to use Norton360 but we can't afford it now :(

Getting same results, running Eset Smart Security/NOD 32 on my main machine, also triggered Avast and Kaspersky on my laptops.

Recommend you don't even bother going there 'til someone from Amibay deems it safe.

I just took a look over there and the whole site is down  :-\

Maybe you guys should stop using Windows? If you insist on using something so barbaric you deserve to get infected. Being a smug Linux user i fear no such things

You guys are suckers. Everyone knows the huge virus corporations like AVG are the guys who make the viruses in the first place! They are creating their own demand.

PS Why are their so many Aussies hanging out here lately? It seems that Amiga.org is the new hangout for Aussies Amigans. I'm so scared   :nervous:

I got this:

Clearly cutting the site down to just 1 page of text and and a single JPEG has made it susceptible to attack. Porbably has very little security gumpf put in place when making that page hence the attack...

With all the AmiBay hate here it makes me wonder if there is a possible link.

MSSE is pretty top-notch; the authors of AvG recommend it (if you're not going to use their app, that is).

Thanks to the not-so-helpful people at 1&1, when they moved Amibay to a new server (that magically CAN support php, wonders never cease) they write enabled the files that allowed the Blackhole exploit to hit the site again this morning.

Sorry about that, it wasn't directly our fault.

Amibay is all cleaned and protected again now, but we do intend to move to a new server in the near future.

No problem here in AmigaOS, Aros, MorphOS, MacOS, or Linux. I'm surprised people still use Windows, aren't they constantly paranoid that someone else is browsing their hard drive?

If only Amibay would get sucked into a black hole, i'd be thrilled.

You would think that after time and time again of Amiga people hacking this site the moron admins would change their attitude and act like proper human beings instead of spying, internet stalking, PM reading, jerks.

But probably not since they havent changed on bit over the years. The original creator of Amibench should be crying himself to sleep every night that his legacy was carried on by these guys...

yeah, that miniscule 89% of the computing world.  I'd heard a rumor that tiny group of about a billion computer users was still active; I wonder if they have any fansites or anything.

Anyway.

No, I'm not "constantly paranoid" about jack because I run a secure system.

Meanwhile Amigas soldier on with "security through obscurity" as the only defense.

I'll buy that for a dollar, as long as these l337 haXX0r script kiddie wannabees who found something on Pastebin will leave AmiBay alone. Magnetic could be full of it, so I could be wrong about this.. if he's not, then we have a short list of suspects.. I'll say no more on the matter.

AmiBay isn't infected now. We are just clearing up a few damaged files but 95%+ of the site is working now.

Yep, I can confirm the virus is all gone now. :destroy:

Btw, as a N00b to the Amiga scene, I think some of the folks here just dont like the AmiBay rules, if that's the case there are several other Miggy forums around.
Title: Re: Be careful going to Amibay

We don't have any particular hatred for the A.org forum over at Amibay, despite what some may think. It's a different perspective here on A.org and we respect that.

Magnetic has alleged that some Amiga users (not necessarily A.org users) have chosen to attack our site with malicious software and that sort of behaviour should have no place on ANY forum, no matter what the subject matter of the forum.

If the two sites can't agree on that, then there's no hope.

Wtf
No I'm not full of it. I'm a former Amiga and newtek dealer for over ten years and held an official license from Amiga Inc.  And yes I'm sure it's Amiga ppl that they mistreated that hack amibay. People dont take kindly to privacy invasion and Internet stalking. Certianly not "hackers".

And yes they also ridicule aorg all the time.

Oh and when I posted today on the dab threa and asked Merlin the chief admin if they have learned their lesson and will change their fascist behavior they deleted my post.

And I need to grow up what a laugh.

I got life banned for selling an a1200 CPU after two months of use to upgrade. No warning no anything just life ban. Why a life ban? Because when I called them out on their totalitarian methods and privacy invasion they didn't like it. How pathetic. Oh and not only did they Internet stalk me but they stalked the person I sold it to. This gives u an idea how bad it is and how these guy have no life or ethics. So anti Amiga I hope they keep getting hacked. They wish they ould have a site with As much integrity as aorg.

@danwood,

[No alerts or problems surfing there on my A1200, AmigaOne or MorphOS machine]

A1200 to old to bother with a virus

AmigaOne the reason they call it AmigaOne is because their was only one made, once again why bother with nothing.

MorphOS isn't this a new virus, oh no it just runs on MACS once again a useless entity to mess with. Although if you like MACS it is a better OS to use.

Oh and when I posted today on the dab threa and asked Merlin the chief admin if they have learned their lesson and will change their fascist behavior they deleted my post.
You asked if they will change their "fascist behavior" and you are surprised that post got deleted?

Really..

If someone else said that about some other site, don't you think that would sound pretty bad????

Quote from: magnetic;697606
And yes they also ridicule aorg all the time.
And people here bash Amibay all the time.
Just means there are people on both sites that don't like the other site.
Doesn't mean either site is evil or anything???
It's the Internet.  People ridicule lots of things all the time..

As for "Internet Stalking?"  A little hyperbole there?
I reserve that type of phrase for people that harass their ex's or think Selena Gomez will really be interested in them once they get her address and show up in her house with duct tape dressed all in bacon..
(It won't work...  don't ask.. )

If this is basically them searching the internet to see what you've sold, to whom and at what price, I'm not sure I'd call that "stalking."

As I've said, you're totally free not to like Amibay.  Not to like their rules, etc..
But those are their rules....

Probably best to leave it at "I don't like them and that site isn't a good fit for me."

You can continue to post in every thread about them, but to be honest, it's not making them look bad..  It's reflecting on you...
IMHO...

I do wish you a good evening.  I have no ill will for you.  I just don't agree with your perspective.

Take it easy..

If you don't like Amibay, there are other options to use.

I'm not a fan of the place due to some arrogance I was shown when I got back into the Amiga scene a few years back, but the place fills a very important role for the Amiga community.  If you like it, use it - if not, you have other options I suppose.

Really? Care to provide an example? Or is this just another example of the absolute rubbish you keep spouting? There are a few members from here over there too, and on EAB also, I'm sure they would have noticed.

Amibay hasn't been "hacked" by leet Amiga hackers. There was a problem with an upgrade, and an unpatched vulnerability was exploited.
Both of those issues have been sorted out, or are in the process of being sorted out, and things will return to normal fairly shortly.
It doesn't matter how much you whine and complain, Amibay is not going away. It is also not going to change, to suit you. If it keeps parasites like you away from buying from the members, that's just dandy.

The only person butt hurt here is you, and it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to see you writhe impotently in rage, so please, keep it up.

I fail to see what's so wrong on Amibay. I did only start using it few months ago and it works for me. That's because I only use it for finding a part in need, or sell some that I don't need.

I must admit I see lots of moderator's arse-lickers constantly quoting from the forum rules because someone might get away with the part THEY want in a way that isn't 100% according to those rules.

But what the heck, all Amiga forums these days are full of a-holes these days. It's either living with it or finding another hobby.
