Title: anyone using 2 memory cards for hardrives on 1200
Post by: jsixis on June 12, 2012, 04:07:55 AM
Just wondering if anyone is using 2 memory flash cards in a 1200?
I want to do away with the hard drive in my 1200 but I want a backup since I know from experience camera memory cards do fail. I have a buffered IDE interface

i have  tried  2 compact flash cards but they conflict ..even changing  master slave settings ..have  a   cdburner connected  to the 3 an half inch cable ...an the compact flash connected to the first connection on the 2 an half inch cable..all connected to a adaptor  on the ide 1200 port ..tried adding a 2nd  compact flash to the 2nd connection on the same  cable but  neither  drive  works..ive  seen  dual  compact  flash adaptors  on ebay  ..never had one though ..

this should help you. http://www.jschoenfeld.com/products/trueide_e.htm
A little more expensive than cheap CF adaptors from ebay but it should do the job.

Hi,

i've spent most of my last weekend to get a dual-CF Adapter to work on my A1200 ('030/8MB). The cable length was no issue as the CF slots are directly on the Adapter PCB.

The good news:
HDToolbox can see both "drives" and their parition table without problems, boot from one of the CF cards is also no problem, and the partitions from the booted card show correctly in workbench (using 3.1). However, the secondary card *is* there, but the partitions are not automounted.

My current workaround is, that after reboot i go into HDToolbox, and rename the partitions of the second (slave) CF Disk. Upon saving the changes back to the disk, the extra Partitions from the second CFdisk show up normally.

I could copy WHDLoad Games to the slave card then and run them, however one game crashed on me while creating a savegame; However, that simply might have been an unrelated issue.

I'll do further testing and tweaking, probably next weekend.

KR,
- G

My A1200 has 2 CF cards running properly on the same IDE channel with IDE Fix Express adapter. They do conflict on different IDE channels tho.
