Title: USB/PS2 adapter from Ebay
Post by: Lurch on June 06, 2012, 08:32:34 PM
Bought one of these: Yes silly price, but hey :-( I like tinkering with different Amiga projects wish I could find a keyboard hack for the A500 to use a PC one :-) Can you say tower? ;-)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/120777266394?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

How is the mouse port connected, the one labelled joystick on the board has a plug that goes into one of the existing joystick ports.

The one labelled mouse port goes to a connector block with pins, how is this connected to an A500?

I was toying with the idea of buying one of these too. Keep us informed on quality, hookup, etc..
I hope it works well.

Will do, just trying to figure out the second connection. There's nowhere on the Amiga, well the 500 I can see to connect it.

Going to have another tinker later today.

I was also toying with the idea of grabbing one of these.  Is it possible an internal USB header connection?  That's kinda what it looks like in the image but it isn't close enough to tell.

Internal usb header, possible. But if this was the case where would you connect it. Hoping I don't need to get a clockport/USB setup. Doesn't mention anything in the auction needing that.

I think it's probably just an option.  I wouldn't worry much about it.  But I do eagerly anticipate your review of this product :)  It just...looks slick.

When installed only the port labelled joystick will function, that's the side that has a plug that connects to the existing joystick port on the Amiga.

I'm assuming that the second cable needs to be connected to something as the mouse/usb/ps2 side doesn't work.

Going to try swapping the cables over to see if I can get the PS2/USB side up.

Sussed it, swapped the cable that had the plug to the other side of the adapter and connected it to the joystick 1/mouse port on the Amiga.

So you are still using the original joystick 2 port on the Amiga for the second joystick and then connecting a Joystick and USB mouse to the adapter board. The second port on the adapter board can't be used unless you get another cable with a plug and connect that side up.

Tried a couple of USB mice, one a no name brand all work. Talk about night and day, the old Amiga ball mouse and auto switcher will be getting put away in a box.

The speed that you can move the mouse around at is amazing. Will be trying the drivers the seller emailed to me next. 5 button's and a scroll wheel. Will post about it in a few.

Now have to decide where to mount it in the case :-/

Can anyone recommend a wireless USB mouse from eBay that should work with this product?

Akiko
I'd recommend getting an actual Microsoft Intellimouse usb mouse. This is the protocol specced in the design of that device afaik. Believe or not they are great mice.
