Title: A1200 PCMCIA Quit working?
Post by: bbond007 on June 02, 2012, 06:47:32 AM
I have a Linksys WPC11 wireless V3 adapter that was working fine.

I put the adapter in an XP computer to upgrade the prism firmware, but I already had the latest firmware.

I put the card back into my 1200 (several days later) and now it does not connect to anything. No power or activity light.

I seem to recall the power light on the card always being on even when MiamiDX was not active. Maybe that was just my imagination.

I don't have access to an XP computer with PCMCIA anymore, but I tried the card in a PPC powerbook and the card was detected in the "About this computer", however no lights ever went on, and I'm thinking OSX probably does not have a driver for the card.

I checked the PCMCIA port for bent pins and everything looks good in there.  I don't have anything else PCMCIA to test.

Is there any utility that will give info about PCMCIA cards? ShowConfig and WhichAmiga does not seem to list anything...

Do you think my PCMCIA port is fried? I sure hope not...

I set pegasus usb adapter, which could not have been simpler. Actually the hard part was finding one of those old school USB cables with the larger end. I do think its slower :(

Thanks!

I seem to recall there's some sort of PCMCIA utility hidden away in workbench 3.0 or 3.1, maybe that could help a bit.

I found PrepCard and that did identify the card as a Linksys device, but i elected not to try and "prep" it :)

Here is the strange thing. the card now works!

Anyway, I don't know why the card was not connecting. Maybe my router was having a issue with all my bittorrents.

The power and activity lights apparently quit working...

I just ordered a new-used card. $6.50 shipped so I'll recover. Maybe this one can become my backup or maybe i'll give it to some other amiga user.

thanks!

I'm just glad my PCMCIA port is probably OK.

Hi,

See   http://aminet.net/driver/net/cnetdevice.lha

There are PCMCIA test progs in the cnet.device.lha, they may help you.

I have a fast-ata thing on the gayle that is supposed to fix the reset. I also have the blickick version of cardreset.

I remember the power light always being on before and now its never on. The card works fine otherwise.

you can even see from this picture I took of my 1200 recently that the power LED is on while I'm playing a whdload game.

thanks.

The PCMCIA slot is very fragile, you may have damaged one of the pins. I would avoid taking it out at all costs.

It's also possible that using XP flashed newer firmware on the card, which doesn't work so well with the Amiga.
