Title: parallel port speed question
Post by: AAACHIPSET on May 30, 2012, 02:50:18 PM
been using  pc network  for a while  now  good program ..but   ...i noticed if  i transfer  from  amiga1200  to  pc laptop  i almost  never  get  cant transfer
errors  yet  when i transfer  pc laptop to a1200  i really have  to check  it every  couple  minutes  an tell it to retry  to continue  transfer ...is there a way  to  increase the  a1200 parallel  port  speed  or  buffer  ??  or  a way to get pc network  software  to automatically  retry  instead  of  me  havin to tell it to  retry  every  5 minutes ?? ....

You have A1200 and you are killing yourself with file transfer over parallel port. Get your self cheap PCMCIA to CF adapter and be done. Transfers takes seconds.
As for you question, many years ago I used PARNET between Amigas and it was at acceptable speed (I dont remember the number), so maybe your problem is with configuration of your PCs parallel port. Check you bios configuration for your parallel port, possible modes are: Normal (SPP), ECP, EPP, ECP+EPP.

Par Net is a lazy way to transfer, but it works. I still use it with my A2000 and pc setup.

I used TwinExpress (from Aminet) over the serial port which could transfer at 11ko/s (baudrate 115200).
