Do some of you know any good tutorial sites for beginners.
Because I seem to have a lot of problems.
One of them is installing antivirus on my 1200.
It keeps telling me I need to install XFDMaster.
So I donwloaded it with my PC used CrossDOS to read it into my amiga.
but them what :-? .
I cant install it because there aint an executable.
What am I suposed to do with it.
(ps I realy dont know much about the system, so be gentle :-))
-
Normally the file is called XFDMaster.lha
the .lha at the end means it's an archive,
just like a zip for windows. You need the Lha
executable in order to decrunch it.
The command to decrunch using lha is, from a shell :
lha -x x xfdmaster.lha RAM:
The check in your ram disk, there should be an
installer.
Good luck!

Er, try this site;
http://www.getboinged.org/amiga_classic.asp?pid=13&cid=108 (http://www.getboinged.org/amiga_classic.asp?pid=13&cid=108)
Or have a look at the links on this site...
If you pop down to the library, i`m sure that they will have a few Amiga books that will help...
As for viruses , i wouldn`t worry about it too much.
There are a few other virus checkers available.
(BTW, XFDMaster lives mostly as libraries in the Libs: drawer. Other programs can access those libraries as well, er, like DLL files)

Thank you all very much you helped me allot.
And nowee I tried the command you wrote.
It unpacked it to the RAM but when I run the instaler I get (Unable to open your tool 'Installer').
Thx a lot guys !
-
you can get the installer from the aminet archive site that was given earlier. Put it in the C dir on your amiga hard disk. You will have to right click and select show all from the icon menu to see it maybe. Just drag the file from where to unpacked it and put it in there.
-
Could you give me a direct link because I dont know what to search for.
There are tons of files on there and when I search for xfdmaster I get the same files that I allready have.
btw what amiga os is the best to use for your everyday 1200

XDFmaster (http://ftp://de.aminet.net/pub/aminet/util/pack/xfdmaster.lha)
-
Well it looks like I have to dig up some books from somewhere because it doesnt work
I downloaded the file and copied it into my C folder
4.Workbench:C>
In this folder is the xfd_User dir that was extracted.
When I run the antivir program it still gives the error message.
Well everbody needs a hobby :-P
This should keep me busy
-
Do a fresh install of workbench 3.1, or simply type "path dh0:c\" in the dos prompt, and try again, if the installer cant be found in dh0:c/ then download:
Installer (http://uk.aminet.net/pub/aminet/util/misc/Installer-43_3.lha)
and unpack it to dh0:c/
-
I will try that tonight thx :-D
-
Oke it works fine now thank you all for helping me out.
Does anybody know a good virus scanner that works on a amiga 1200 with 2 mb ram and wb3.1
I has to load automaticly and must be installed on the hdd
Thx
-
VirusExecutor (http://wuarchive.wustl.edu/~aminet/util/virus/VirusExecutor.lha)
-
Have a look at the Virus Help Denmark (http://www.vht-dk.dk/vhtdk/amiga/xvs/xvs.htm) site. I personally use the VirusChecker II (http://www.vht-dk.dk/vhtdk/amiga/vc/vc.htm).
The Amiga virus-threat was blooming during the 80-90s, but now is something rarely seen.

here is a good tip , if you have fast mem (ie an mem card/accelerator board) use os3.9 (require 6mb of fastram) , that will give u alot more as a newbie, especially theese days.
but i dont know if you have fast ram at all..
good luck! and welcome to amiga.org !

Exterminator,
Why do you think that you need to install anti-virus software on your Amiga 1200? If you do not plan on getting on the internet then you do not need the virus checker. And even if you do plan on getting online, you still do not need a virus checker. A virus is just a small program, and like all programs, they will only run on their native platform. Most virus on the internet are created to attack PCs. They will not even run on an Amiga computer. And I do not know of anybody in the Amiga community that still creates Amiga virus. Now back in the late 80s to early 90s you had to be careful about getting a virus because people were copying disks back then in pirate groups. This is a thing of the past. Today Amiga users are buying Amiga software in the hopes that the Amiga will survive if it gets enough support. My advice to you: don't worry so much about virus. :-P

Well fly,
10 years ago I was a proud owner of a amiga 500.
I borrowed some diskettes from friends of mine.
before I knew it almost al my floppy's where infected.
I could not boot from the floppy's anymore.
And because the 1200 has a hd, I dont want to get infected
Im using my pc to send downloaded games and programes to my amiga.
and I dont want my 1 week of work to be destroyed.
:-D
I installed VirusExecutor and it seems to be working.
Do those programs automaticly scan floppy's when inserted ? :-D
