Title: GBS 8200 VGA Converter
Post by: k4lmp on May 04, 2012, 10:59:21 PM
Well, I got my converter, and stupid me, thought it had a DB9 input, and that I just would plug my Amiga cable in.  :furious:  So, I have the video cable that is 23 pins to 9 pin.  I can find an old cable that the 9 pin will connect to, that I can strip back and hook up to the input of my converter.  The trouble is, I don't know what goes to what.  As the Amiga seems to have digital and analog RGB outputs.  Do I use the analog?  Anyone wire one of these up, that can tell me what wires to what?  Thanks, what a bummer, guess I should have checked better.  I really don't mind making a cable, and will probably even put it in some kind of small project case, just don't wanna hook up the wrong wires and fry my converter.

I believe the digital outputs on the RGB 23 pin ports are for using CGA or EGA monitors. You definitely want to hook it to the analog.

Thanks, bunches.  Got it working.  It comes up and looks great on the boot screen where it asks me to boot 68000 or 68030.  When I pick, it goes all to pieces and I have to reset, and sometimes that doesn't even make it work.  Guess I need to play with it some.  Once it gets adjusted, on my workbench screen, it is great.  Just kinda a lot of trouble to get there.  Does it change resolution from the startup, to the workbench screen.  I wonder if my A2000 is set for PAL or NTSC?  Any way to tell?  Thanks.

if you have a 3.1 ROM it should say which mode is selected in the early startup menu. Not sure about older ROMS.

Correct. Also 3.0 roms have this feature. Nothing lower than 3.0 roms allow this.  (software switching in early startup)

Well, my video output at least works, the + and - 5vdc are there, but no + - 12vdc.  Is there a jumper somewhere on the 6.3 motherboard to enable/disable this voltage?

Thanks,
Jeff

Amiman99, Thanks, I used your pictures, and made a cable, and it works fine.  I also went in and set the resolution to NTSC, so now it works without having to press the "auto" button everytime  I boot up.  For the money, it works great.  If you use interlaced, I've noticed it flickers pretty bad, I don't know if this is something I have set incorrectly or not.  I didn't do the 'auto' function after setting it to interlaced, so I don't know if that would've helped or  not.  May have to try that.

The whole point of this converter is to flicker fix the NTSC/PAL modes isnt it? So it should be stable without flicker.
