Title: 3D Amiga 600 case images for 3D printing??
Post by: Florida on May 01, 2012, 11:11:19 PM
3D Amiga 600 case images? Do they exist? Would it be hard to model the A600 on a 3D program for 3D printing?

I had thought about this too. It should be possible to print the AMiga Fantasy Case or a Walker and be far cheaper than trying to manufacture them.

You need buildable models first. I've never seen someone take the time to make a model of the walker in solidworks or anything similar.

Thats true,    the cost of the plastic thread for 3d printing extruder type enough for a Amiga Case I wouldn't want to waste... So yeah best to model it best, perhaps clay??   Then you would be able to make changes, get precise measurements then translate that to your CAD designer.   Very small designs then you dont care so much about wastage..

Would be even more elegant if you had a teflon powder/laser 3d printer or injection mould :)

3D printing as a one off prototype by third party from .STL file for A600 case =£400 and about 20-25% more for A1200 case.

(about $600-700)

What about those online 3D printing services (like the one thats selling the 3D printed raspberry PI cases) - i thought those were reasonably cost effective as far as ad-hoc goes?

Shapeways is $1.40 per cm3 for plastic. You only pay for the actual material. Pi cases are easily done as even a cheap ass (£1200) printer can manage the size required. A far more expensive printer is required for larger cases. Even so, I find Digiman's prices to be well over the top. I wonder if these prices are for a solid lump rather than a hollow case.

...mmm... OK, I'll take that back, I just did some maths and I don't think he's far off after all. Ouch!
