Ok, I've now completely abandoned my dream of playing lemmings or any other decent amiga game (ie: kick1.3 generation) from a single click right off my hard-drive.
But for the love of Amiga, why the f*** can't I get this stupid Amiga 600 to play my games?! even from floppy??
So far I've tried using a program called TUDE -some kickstart degrader... and it boots up and I get the friendly hand icon from the 1.3 kickstart...
but that's about it. I can get the retro coloured Amiga-dos... but ask the machine to actually WORK- Bubble Bobble... Lemmings... and I just get Guru messages. Surely Amiga made a huge blunder when they `upgraded' the roms- it's blindingly obvious that a lot of the old stuff WAS actually needed!
Can someone suggest a degrader-program that actually works or another plan of attack??
Thanks!

this is not really a problem theese days, anyway
go to www.whdload.de and download the WHD Installer for lemmings + whd packge , then if you dont got the orginal (whdload is for orginals only) go to back to the roots and download lemmings from there (should work with the current whdload) and you are good to go...enjoy
pps:tude suxx... , use relockick if u want to play from floppy..
pps:i would also suggest that you check out JST on aminet and try to find a JST installer for lemmings aswell..

Well it is a problem if you don't have a HD! :-D
-
well read his post then manicx , he said he have a hdd... :)
-
yeah, but what about CD-R or network?
if not then just make a serial or parallel connection to PC and copy over the WHDLOAD installation + the installers for those games... how much mem you got installed 2MB?
-
you should have got an amiga 500+. I can play lemmings perfectly on that!
-
Why not just get a 1.3 chip?? They are not that expensive :-)
Software kickstart wont work on all of the games... Also software kickstart use up like half of your ram.

Running WHDLoad on Amiga 600 is not recommended. I have a system which has a stock 68000 CPU, 4MB PCMCIA Fast RAM, 2MB Chip RAM, 512MB hard drive, 3.1 ROM, OS3.1 installed. The 68000 CPU is missing some IMPORTANT functions which WHDLoad often requires, so a lot of installs simply refuse to work. There are games which work fine, but a lot of them would really benefit from at least an 020 accelerator or better.

Odd ....
I remember playing Lemmings on my A1200 back in 92/93. Worked quite
o.k., only the ingame font came up a bit weird looking.
Not sure wether I disabled AA in the early-startup-menu, but
I surely didn't bother bout the 020 and the OS3.0 ....

or another plan of attack??
Nothing better than the real thing.

Impressive! I find myself wondering whether such a packaged and never-used computer is subject to ... well, decay. There is no dust to clog the drive, no battery to cause chemical havoc, no discoloration of the plastic due to UV radiation... Mind, I'm just wondering in general, and certainly not implying that this lovely machine is broken in any way. Does anyone have any info on this?

I think Red's auction is for a refurb'd one so it has been used, but just cleaned up and basically returned to the same standard as new.
So it should have at least been "run in" so that any major problems would have been identified and rectified before it was refurb'd.

True. Although he did have a point. I am test each unit, and am actually finding about 10% of them do not work on the first try. I cannot say for certain if this is because of Father Time or the lack of QA at C= though. The faults I have found range from the most common being the chips coming unseated, to oxidation on the disk drive head. Luckily most of them start up on the first power on and work fine.

Man, those a500's make me cry....I want one SO bad....

I have managed to run some WHDLoad games from a stock A600HD. Getting a 2MB PCMCIA RAM card did help a little but for lemmings a stock 600 with HD should safice!!

OOOHHH NOOOO!!!!!

@RedWarrior
Go to Aminet & download game/patch/jst.lha.
You can e-mail me for the HD installer file.
I'm running the first Lemmings on an A4000T with
OS3.9 & graphics card. The intro is not quit
right & I have to re-boot to quit, but who
cares. :-) The original disks are required.
