Post by: Moonlighter on April 18, 2012, 06:20:10 AM
Hello Ppl. New to the forum.
I have a A600 that is hanging up on power on just a black screen . . .
If i wait enough ( like 5 - 10 ) min or so , it will boot up eventually :laugh1:
i have tried to swap flopy drive even take it off and its the same.
I have even tried to swap the kick start rom from a A500 (kick 1.3)
it was this way that i see it working the first time cose it boot up right away..  but then did the same thing.
now i have put the original kickstart rom . .
is there any work around to this?
tks in advance

I also have two A500 one work ok but other is soffering from the green acid from the baterie leak from expation card its very very green

any way to clean ? or the acid corrotes the tracks as well?

The A600 is probably suffering from leaking capacitors. Look carefully to see if there is any residue near the capacitors or if any of them are looking fat/expanded.

I had a problem with A600 similar to yours and it was because of that. They may need replacing.

Regarding the A500 with the acid of the battery, remove the expansion right away. Remove the battery carefully. Clean up the mess using vinegar or lemon juice, but be careful and not rough so that you do not damage any traces. Do this for the expansion and also the a500 mother board and expansion connector if need be.

Hi there .. no leak near capacitors, however the 3th solid capacitor near the Rf modulator its lose, maybe its this one.. I will try to take it out and replace it or solder it, but now even worst.. yesterday i notice a strange electronic burning smell when the a 600 was on .. but i didnt see nothing today when i power it up black screen , wait then just white  no kick start.. i search and find a very very small (C3 ) burned its shorted out i think its capacitor .. I will post some pictures
I am so sad.. hope i can solve this. but dont know where i will find this small parts.. the A500 its ok .. i take the expantion out and clean with electronic cleaner spry and a toothbrush

This is the most common problem with A600s now. You must replace all of your capacitors whether they look like they're leaking or not. This should fix the problem!

hI again
I have finally bought all capacitors i have changed the one that was loose and also the one that was burned "C3" Ceramic one ..
But now it goes White Screen ..
I will try and change all aluminium SM capacitors and electrolitic as well ..
but i found that the line that feeds rhe C3 is burned :madashell:. i fallow it and it goes to the back of the board :hammer:

I will have to pass a fin wire to the small hole or aroud the board

I am so Sad  about this tiny litle big A600

At leat before if I wait enough it will work ...

Get your self a keyboard test or diagnostic software and verify which keys don't work.
I had a A3000 keyboard with plastic keyboard membrane which did similar thing. I found out that one line was broken, making 3 to 4 keys not working.

I've had this exact same problem on two different A600's...

The keyboard ribbon cable at the end has carbon like contacts and when the ribbon is removed from the board INCORRECTLY (ie just pulled without lifting the locking flap first) then it wrecks the contacts (they'll appear badly scratched if you look closely).
There's an easy solution though... :)

Just get a pair of sharp scissors and cut a thin slither off of the end of the ribbon evenly across (of no more than 1mm). This will mean the lower part of the contacts will now make the contact and your keyboard should be saved.

Failing that, you'll need to buy a working A600 keyboard membrane. Airey from ebay UK should have plenty of those in stock.
