Title: Other general purpose Amiga sites?
Post by: Duce on April 06, 2012, 05:52:53 PM
You'll have to forgive me for being a bit of a closet case when it comes to general purpose Amiga sites.  When I got back into the Amiga in late 2007 or so, first place I really found was A.org.  I've stuck with it, not venturing too far off because I liked the general purpose theme of it that wasn't too heavy on any particular Amiga OS variant.  I follow several OS4 forums, but don't use them much.

Can anyone recommend a site similar to A.org in regards to not being too "color" heavy when it comes to the various camps?

I'm not trying to get a cheap shot in on A.org and the good people that run and use it, but man - I can't find a shovel big enough to keep digging all the BS drama out of this place anymore.  It used to be there was about 75% real helpful information to 25% mud flinging quota, but recently it is getting harder and harder to find threads here that aren't "hot button" threads meant to start arguments.  And that sucks worse than I can even start to explain, and the worst part is some of the people that do it repeatedly are the guys running the show, and I cannot put on them on my blocked users list.  It's simply not do-able with the way the place runs.

PS:  don't say Moobunny, lol.

The Amiga sites I frequent.
This one.. ;-)

Amibay.com (a lot of trading/sales, but there are some GREAT hardware help/fixit guys/gals there..)...
(Note, they do have some rules about trading/sales that rub people the wrong way.  Good or bad, it's who they are..)
EAB.abime.net - Great general purpose site with some really smart people there as well...  (Toni from WinUAE is there all the time, among others)  A lot of great game/demo history knowledge there..
Lemonamiga.com Mostly for gaming, but a fun site with some great people...

I know there are others..  If I spoke more German (more that none), A1K.org looks good.  (There is an English speaking forum section, but the real fun stuff generally appears in their German forums..)

One thing to remember about the sites with less of the chatter, is that frequently they get there and stay there by being much more tightly moderated...

I like the variety..
