I got some boxes of various computer gear from an old friend who's getting married and therefore consolidating a lot his vast collection. Among these just happens to be an Amiga Technoligies A1200 hd in very near mint condition. It's stock except for a MBX 1200z trapdoor card with 1 meg of fast ram. I just dug out my old 1084s that I still had in my closet, and they both work great. I had been eyballing ebay looking for a 1200, now I can just look for upgrades instead. :) The only downside is now I'm to excited to sleep. I wonder where that box of amiga games disks is.....

Nice! Soon, you'll be frustrated with the 1200z's choice of PCMCIA slot access or 8 megs of fast RAM, and you'll be in search of an accelerator. This is how it begins. EDIT: Or, I could read your signature and see that you already went through it with your other A1200. ;-)

Lucky man! :)

Heh! Yeah, been there...and apparently about to go there again. :D I'm still undecided if I'm going to stick with a ram card and keep it as stock as possible, or get an accelerator card. If only I still had my Blizzard 1230, it would be a no-brainer. Oh well. I've also got to find a better video solution, since I seem to have lost my monitor cable and am just using composite to the 1080s. It works, but the picture is not as good. My towered A1200 has been in storage for awhile, I need to dig it out and see if it still works. More importantly, I need to re-learn all the knowledge I've forgotten since then. :)

That all depends on what you want to do with the 1200..
I had a 1200z, great RAM card.
I had 8M, but usually left it at 4M (Software toggle-able).
Worked great for WHDLOAD and the only thing I was using PCMCIA at the time was CF transfer, so it wasn't a big deal..
Then I wanted to get into networking, so I went with an accel/RAM card...
But the 1200 with the MBX1200z was great for games...

WHDLOAD license is worth it! http://www.whdload.de should be around $20-ish USD
Just make sure you get at the minimum more RAM ie. 8Meg or even better a 030 accelerator :)

Hi,
Quick,
Get rid of it before you are infected by the Amiga virus, this is a very contagious disease that can often lead to complete mental exhaustion, lunacy, and then death by extermination by Amiga.org's moderators (if any are still left). For further safety, you can contact me, the smerf and give me that dreaded computer before you are mentally affected, and remember
ONLY AMIGA MAKES IT POSSIBLE

Well a little rummaging around in a closet yielded an 8 MB simm, so now I'll just stay with this card for a while. I'm sure I'll eventually go for an 030 card at some point. Now, where did I put that null modem cable.....

Since this is now in fact my fifth Amiga, (or is that sixth? starting to lose track...) I'm afraid I'm already infected, indeed perhaps chronic. :D

Nice catch! Have fun shopping for:
CPU with RAM
Subway
CF Card adapter
IndivisionAGA
:)

Yes, IndivisionAGA is top of list. :)

Definitely agree here..
Although it's more like $30, but still very worth it..
Admittedly, I used the "unregistered" version for a year or so, because I'm so cheap. ;-) But even I registered it....
There was also talk that an Amiga 1200 with a 3.0 ROM would work with PCMCIA and a full 8M...
I wasn't able to test it tho, because I got my ACA1230 about that time, but might be worth a shot..

Well, a day's effort rummaging around in dusty boxes has yielded a CF adapter that that came with a printer, a 128 CF card that was swiped out of an old digital camera, and an internal scan doubler and flicker fixer that I took from the towered A1200, which can do without it until I get another one. :)
Took a little doing to get the reader to work, but luckily it and the card are compatible. The 8 meg issue is annoying, but I found a utility disk online for the card that has a software switcher; you can have 8 mb ram, or 4 mb and a working pcmcia slot. It will work for now. The best part is, this entire project so far has cost me the grand total of Nothing! :laugh1: Can't beat that :)
