Trying to wire up my A2000's 2nd internal floppy drive to the external port by running a cable from the rear DF2: port to the internal (normally) DF1: drive. My HxC2001 is set to handle DF0:, DF1:.
I had a A1010 early external floppy on hand that was bad mechanism, so I took it and its daisy chain daughterboard out and wired it to the floppy drive in my A2000. I get a ??? from the system.
I guess that daisy chain board in there does not work with A2000-style drives?
The mechanism of the A1010 is 3/4-height, where the A2000 floppy is 1/2-height, FWIW.

so how did you chang the address on the 1010 drive because I thought it would alwas be DF:2
-
Yea, when I hooked the 1010 complete to the external port, it was DF2:. I don't care - that's fine. I just want a way to move some data into the A2000 via floppy.
It's not working with using the little daisy chain board in the 1010 enclosure with the floppy that's internal to the A2000, though. I get a DF2: ???
Diff type of drive, I guess. ?

It should work as Df2 the Drive Mechanically and electrically are the same, the only difference is the drive faceplate. The only thing I can think of is there's not enough power through the FDD connector due to internal load, check the +5V line (Pin 12) and the +12V line (Pin 23). Is there a jumper on J301 (Second internal Floppy selection)?
-
Hmm, I noticed one pin on my A2000's internal drive is missing, at the outer end - pin 23 perhaps...? The drive I am trying to use as external DF2: was internal DF1:. Is there a first or 2nd drive jumper on it? If so its set to secondary, as it was DF1:. Is that my prob?
Thanks.

Yes, internal A2000 drives need that jumper set back to primary if you want to use it in an A1010 case...

I see you are in Alexandra, I have a A1010 you can use if you need to get something inside a A2000, I don't want to get rid of it but you live so close I would let you use it. PM me if you wait to.

It works! Here's the setup:

Internal 2nd floppy drive is working as DF2:

I see what you are doing, I was thinking that the 1010 had died. Duh.

Odd... I set the jumper to primary (0) and it mounts as DF2: on the A2000 -- hooked to the external drive port. But...my HxC2001 goes crazy and reports errors. It's set to be DF0: and DF1:. HxC works fine if I unplug DF2:.
So...would I be better off setting the drive to unit 2? There's a jumper that goes 0, 1, 2, 3.
Or must the first external drive be set to 0?
Thanks.
