Hi guys, here's my dilema. I have an a4000 with about 50meg ram and have done a large 3072x2304x24bit raytrace and am trying to convert it to a jpg. Computer keeps running out of memory, im using art-pro and ive noticed in the past it doesnt use much chip mem for this process so not sure. Any other programs that might be able to do it?
Thanks.

Better use the NetPBM and jpegtools (see Aminet) command lines then. You will need about 30 MB of ram and temporary space on your HD. Using PIPE:
would also work, but memory might be tight.
Use ilbmtoppm to convert the image into ppm:
ilbmtoppm yourfile.iff >yourfile.ppm
The convert the image into jpeg:
cjpeg -dct float -optimize -quality 90 yourfile.ppm yourfile.jpg
Depending on the version of cjpeg, you might also
need to use a std redirection for the target file (">yourfile.jpg").
I think cjpeg also allows the scaling of the image, but I'm not too sure. djpeg allows it for sure, so for creating a smaller version:
djpeg -dct float -scale 1/8 yourfile.jpg yourfile2.ppm
cjpeg -dct float -optimize -quality 70 yourfile2.ppm small.jpg
You get the picture...

Get imagestudio from aminet. Uses virtual memory, so your memory can't run out.

[off topic] 'scuse me for intruding here... Mikkihii, what on Earth is your avatar supposed to depict? I see a human face in the bottom part, and then it becomes a grey-flesh-pinkish blur. Can you explain? [/off topic]
Continue the JPEG-discussion, ladies and gentlemen...

I assembled a graghic, a while back, that was assembled from 4 Scans at 150DPI.
It was originally available from my WebSite in ONE Piece but my A2000 (then, 32MB) with 2MB PicassoII couldn't download it!
So, I cut the image (still on Hard Drive) into TWO and in that form the 150DPI image is available from my Site!
Links Page (http://home.swiftdsl.com.au/~vortexau/links.htm)
(LEFT and RIGHT 150DPI sections just under the Pierson's Puppeteet Home Page link)
Still, this is smaller than what YOU require!

Hey hey hey! Not just any head: it's my head :)
Or used to be, when I still had my piercings... oh well.
I'm amiga-user, so everybody thinks I'm weird anyway :D
