Title: C:Installer file - Shoot me now !!!
Post by: on December 18, 2002, 08:02:21 PM
Help !............

Okay, so I'm a thicky but I'm new to A1200s and the command language although I've owned an A500 since they were launched - I'm only really a games freak.

Can anyone PLEASE put me out of my misery and tell me how the hell I copy the installer file from the Workbench INSTALL disk to my HD boot drive SYS: folder ? (If I'm right in saying that's where it's meant to go?)

I'm trying to install Eide buffer software but keep getting the can't open tool 'C:Installer' message and it's driving me nuts !!! I've already had to reinstall WB and repartition my HD coz I've tinkered around so much trying to get this going and smegged it up !

Please help and remember....I need it explained with commands and step by step idiot speak......thanks.

"C:" is a logical device and normally it is linked to sys:c.

2 ways of doing this:
a) WB

Open your boot-drive on the HD.
Select "show all files" in the windows menu.
Do the same on the Install-floppy.
Move the file installer into the "c" directory of your HD.

b) CLI/Shell

type:
copy df0:installer c:

third way:
Select installer icon and then menu/icons/information

then select the label "icon" and change default tool to
sys:utilities/multiview.
Then save it and execute ;)

Boot your Amiga.  When its up & running, insert your install disk.

I would imagine that installer file isn't  "packed" so...

open shell.

type

df0:c
copy installer hd0:c/

Hello

I think your problem is that you have an old version of installer.
you can download a later version from Aminet  http://ftp.sunet.se/pub/aminet/util/misc/Installer-43_3.lha
