Hello,
My A500+ has been packed in a box for the last two years or so. I pulled it out yesterday and today I tried to turn it on ... I heard a noise from the power supply (can't really explain the noise, but not a loud bang, more like sparkling water) and nothing happened. When I smell the power supply I smell something burnt, but not a big smell.
My question are; did I damage my A500+? and what are my options?

You're only option right now it to try another power supply! I think it's unlikely that it has harmed your A500.
If the new power supply fails then yes you have a broken A500 in need of repair (short circuit by the sound of it).

Is it possible to turn a PC power supply to an Amiga power supply?

Yes it is. I did it and it works fine. I did mine with an AT power supply but you can even use an ATX one (more work because of the soft power on/off button).

Click the site above. Its the one i used and its very informative.

Thanks for everyone for the replies. I'll see how to convert an ATX power supply to an Amiga PSU. I can conform it is the PSU since there are clear signs of burnt.

Does anyone know from where I can get the schematics of the A500 PSU so I see what exactly went caput? Also is there anyone who managed to fix one of these PSUs?

Might be easier just to go find a new one. Or either make your own from an atx or get someone like the guys at amigakit to make you one.
My experience with psu's is just to bin them when dead unless it's über expensive to replace it.

Depends on what went pop... if it was just a capacitor, then just change it! Very cheap and easy.
Amigakit sell adaptors for PC PSUs by the way....

I attached a photo ... I marked the burnt area with a red oval.

I have several spare ATX power supplies and I am reading the following as suggested in this thead;
http://www.ianstedman.co.uk/Amiga/amiga_hacks/Amiga_Power_supplies/body_amiga_power_supplies.html
Am I right ... the ATX motherboard connector is connected to nothing? (when green PS-ON is connected to ground).

Problem is there are several different versions of the power supply. Different vendors, different countries... I have one schematic, but it appears to be drawn by hand.

I did see somewhere on teh interwebs where someone put a miniATX (I think) powersupply inside his dead A500/1200 power supply case...

You might be able to find some kind of surplus supply that would fit into the old case.
I wired an extra plug onto the external supply that came with an Amiga HD. That thing was big enough for the drive and the computer.

I am going to bring this up just to ask a question; could the Amiga power supply have gone because of the high humidity where it was stored? In my country we have very high humidity in winter. Before I stored it the Amiga power supply was fine; then it went nuts with a single switch on… yesterday a PC monitor I had (stored in the same place) also when nuts… Therefore I was thinking maybe I should switch the A500+ in summer ;)
