Title: Can a VT2000 (A2000) run on VT4000 software?
Post by: TK3811 on February 10, 2012, 01:00:13 PM
Hi. I'm a hobbiest and I just acquired an old Video Toaster card (NOT a Video Toaster 4000) and I need install disks for it.

But I always thought that the 2.X install disks were for the original Video Toaster and the 4.X install disks were for the Video Toaster 4000.

Would you please help me to understand what I should expect to work well on my Amiga 2000HD running AmigaDOS 2.X with a GVP G-Force 040 and 16MB RAM that I bought new in 1989? I don't have a CD-ROM or an ethernet card for it.

I'm just looking to use it for blue/green screen (Chroma key).

Your help will guide me to find install disks to use.

Thanks a lot!

The Video Toaster 2000 will run on VT4000 software. When you install Vt4000 sw v4.1 from CD, it will ask you which VT you have, just choose VT2000.
I got running VT4000 on A2000 with 4.1 sw and VT2000 on A2000 with v4.1.
To do blue/green Chromakey, you need separate chroma device, like "Chromkey plus", if you dont have one you can only use Lumakey on Black or White background on VT.
You can install SCSI CDROM on A2000HD, just use longer SCSI cable. CDs are available on EBAY last time I checked.
Good luck.

Isn't there more to installing a CD drive to an A2000 than just adding it to the SCSI chain?

You need CD file system, many found on Aminet (like AmiCDROM) and device driver, like scsi.device (which is in ROM v2.1 and 3.0 and you have A2091), or usually comes with SCSI driver install package.
It's not straight forward, but I can help.
Note: you need OS v2 and up to run Video Toaster.
