Hi guys
I've just installed the new prismv2 drivers and during the installed I was surprised to see it didn't asked me what network i was running. Instead it asked me for a pass phrase. I'm running a WPA2-personal network. Running AES and TKIP.
The manual doesn't really mention much about WPA2 and i was wondering what i enter in to the wireless prefs text file. In order to get the A1200 running.
-
LOL! Yeah, have fun getting your Amiga wireless baby!! You are running exactly the same thing I am running and after weeks of struggle my A1200 fails to go online wireless. Forget wireless and stick with wired. I need to get a wired Ethernet card for my Amiga and a very long cable, but this is the only choice I have with it. If you managed to get it online, please tell me what you done to get it online because I sure gave up myself.

I think I'll just stick to WEP. Getting that up and running could not have been simpler.
I only let known MAC addresses on my on the wireless anyway.
I think I would notice someone parked outside stealing my internet. I don't know why they would do that anyway when there is a Panara Bread with free wifi not far away...
-
Well i've had wireless working fine, but i wanted to get WPA2 running on account of it being more secure and thats also what all of our laptops are set to. I dont want to be entering in MAC addressed when ever a friend wants to log on to the wireless. Besides it's suppose to work lol

Which contract you got that from that says it is suppose to work?

WEP also couldn't be simpler to crack, nor could MAC address filtering. Even WPA isn't very secure. It just takes longer to crack.

Once they figure our my internet provider is Clear Wimax they probably would not want on anyway.

The best available encryption mode will be chosen automatically. The router tells the Amiga what modes it uses, so you don't have to tell it. Note that to use AES, you need a reflashed Prism-II card.

Hey chaps
Well its taken me the best part of the day but i fought the beast and won! Got both my Netgear cards flashed and now working on my A1200 via the WPA2 encrypted wifi. I realised it had to be the firmware, when the amiga logged on to wifi hotspot on my phone, which i had setup running WEP. So i installed the cards on a Win XP laptop to check, sure enough, no luck with the main wifi via Winblows.
Can't say how happy i am to have got this working. Will be making a write up on my blog tomorrow on how i got it all working. Hopefully it will aid everyone else who is struggling to get wifi on their migs

Congratulations!
Anyway, I can't wait to read about the process. I guess flashing the card would be the first step.
I don't know how I would ever flash my card. I think my laptop takes a PCI express. I do have OSX powerbook. I wonder of that would work....

Thanks, it was touch and go. I've not really played around heavily with my Amiga's in ages. But after the last meet up of our club and hearing about the drivers. It was what i'd been hoping for. As i was fedup with swapping and changing the router's wifi settings whenever i wanted to use a WEP limited A1200. Now the old lad's caught up!
You just need a linux or windows based machine with a PCMCIA port. Not sure if you can get USB PCMCIA adaptors :-S
I'll be posting up what i did in a day or two. I'll do my best to help anyone if they need pointers.

In your blog I want you to put STEP by step in the most intesified detail as possible. To a point even a person with an IQ of 60 would be able to do it by following your steps. What hardware needed, what needs to be flashed on and on and on. Could you send that link to this forum here? I really need to read all the details as possible because I want to get my miggy online wireless instead of paying for a wired version. Thanks in advance.
-
Maybe you could use one of those ethernet to wireless adapters ?
I think there exists an adapter that can connect via wire to the computer (or old xbox) and from itself to a wireless router.
Its configured connected to a PC and then connected to the ethernet port that its going to be used with.
-
Freakin loo, all of that just to chat on wookiechat and sabreMSN??! I start to wonder the worth of it. It is getting too complicated here I saw the adapter for PCMCIA to USB and it cost me 150 dollars. What?? Just so I can flash the ethernet card? No, it is not worth it. I am going cable instead of 30 bucks.

Hi
The guide will be step by step to the best of my abilities. I'll list software I'm using as well as hardware :-)
I'll post a link here when its up :-)

Hi James,
Well done matey.
E-Mail me the info and I`ll proof read your instructions before you post up ?

Its ok letting the ape proof read it but he'll need to learn to read first ;)
-
Damn there's always a catch! :)
-
I've yet to hear from Rockape, but as people are wanting to get their machines online
Here is the link

Hey hiddenevil,
I want to ask one question. If I send you my netgear card by mail, pay for shipping and handling for both sending and receiving as well as a fee charge for doing the flashing for me, would you accept and flash the card for me?
Thanks in advance.
P.S "Better yet, can I just buy the card from you flashed and I will pay for the flashing fee and shipping and handling for sending the item to me. How is that?"
-
Regarding passphrases, I thought nearly everyone uses a passphrase for WPA rather than a hexadecimal key. I don't think many router configuration interfaces even give you the option of entering a raw key.
-
Funny thing is, hiddenevil have still not responded to my request yet.
-
Give the man a chance :-)
-
Hi there
If you want to send me your card i can certainly look in to it for you :). However flashing my own cards and someone elses is another matter. I'd certainly want it to be clear that I cant be responsible for the sucess or failure.
I'm happy to offer fellow mig owners help, i just dont want to get shouted at if a card doesnt flash right :-(

I am OK with that. Can you send me your mailing address at amigaclassicrule@gmail.com (amigaclassicrule@gmail.com)? This way I can mail the card to you? Also can you give you me the full total price including shipping to you and back to me as well as the price for flashing the card? Thanks in advance.
Or better yet!!! Can you send me a link or something where I can USB to PCMCIA adapter so I can insert the PCMCIA card into my PC (I have windows XP myself, 32 bit windows xp too) and I can follow the guide. If it fails I will go through you as plan B. Thanks in advance.
-
As you will be posting me your card, you will have a better idea about the postage costs then me :-) So long as the return postage is covered, will be fine. I would recommend placing your network card inside some stiff card if you plan on using a jiffy bag.
As for a USB adaptor for flashing your card, I've not looked in to this. I'd suggest Ebay :-)

If you have an available PCI slot you could just go for one of these (http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=pci+pcmcia&_sacat=See-All-Categories).

Do you not know anyone with a laptop running XP or Linux that can help you? Seems a waste to be spending £10-15 on a PCI card might only use once.
btw i tried to email you my address and gmail bounced back your email address :-/
-
then try the other email address: attaarts@gmail.com. That will not bounce back for sure. And you are right, might as well send the card to you. Can you email me your full mailing address, the total price of everything and means of depositing the money to you. I will simply mail the item and transfer the money to you which include shipping and handling of the return trip and the cost for flashing it. If it breaks and the card dies out email me and we will go from there. Thanks in advance.
-
Sure i can send you my address, however i dont know the postage costs. You shall have to find those out when you come to posting the item to me. As i dont know how your packing the item etc.
Where are you posting from?

I am posting from Canada.

Wow! what a distance! Well tell you what, get the card over to me and when it comes time to posting it back. I'll let you know what the post office quotes me and you just wire me the funds? Hows that sound? :-) Dont worry about me flashing the card, I dont muck around with 20 year old computers to make money out of it lol

Hey hiddenevil,
I received your email and I have just to wait till the end of the month to receive my money. As soon as i receive the money I will send you the cash for postage, and the flashing :)
I am going to send you 40 dollars for flashing the card :)
Thanks in advance.

Cheers for the informative guide Hiddenevil.
Just got my NetGear MA401 today and used an old laptop with XP to upgrade the firmware/station and it works like a charm in my A600@30MHz.
Whole procedure was really easy. Linksys drivers worked in my case but had to disable the radio from the tray icon for the WinUpate to stop giving some read error :)
Nothing serious though. Update was done flawlessly.
After using it for more than an hour on my A600 I can say that I haven't noticed any delay at all @ WPA2.
Using MiamiDx I've used any possible internet application (AmIRC, AWeb, SabreMSN, Samba etc) without a single issue.
Awesome stuff :)
-
I finally was able to borrow an old Dell D810 notebook with a PCMCIA slot but the only problem was that it has Windows7 and the Linksys driver would not work :(
What a frustrating machine. I turn it on and it first wants to download two years of about 500TB of windows updates. Who puts windows 7 on a machine with such low specs anyway. Oh, and the best part is it had some virus checker popping up(behind the browser... in the background) insisting that every single file I downloaded is infested with a virus.
So I just prepared an 60GB Windows XP HD (under Oracle VirtuaBox) with all of the drivers and files and I'm going to swap the HD in that D810 before I try it again.
That way I can leave that little treasure in its present condition and don't end up getting stuck rebuilding the OS after something goes wrong :)
I was going to try a linux live CD but with my luck something will be screwy with the CD ROM.
Hiddenevil, thanks for the guide! Hopefully it makes rest goes better. So far this has been a mission :)

Maybe you could use one of those ethernet to wireless adapters ?
I think there exists an adapter that can connect via wire to the computer (or old xbox) and from itself to a wireless router.
Its configured connected to a PC and then connected to the ethernet port that its going to be used with.
I've got one of them on my Blu-Ray player. I bought it a Walmart. You have to configure it on a PC first if you're using encryption, but one it is set you then attach it to a ethernet cable and plug it into any wired Ethernet port on any device. It also give you teh choice of using it with a DC adapter or a USB cable to draw power (both are supplied).
Here's the one I bought:

Hi guys!
Just want to tell you how happy it makes me. Hearing I've been able to help my fellow Amigan's! As my friend Rockape often reminds me, it's good to spread the wealth :) Be it lending hardware or an ear to tech problems and trying to sort them out :D
If anyone does have an issue with flashing their cards, such as they can't get to a laptop. I am happy to help out, as i have with one fellow already.
So long as you:
A. Dont blame me if for any unforeseen reason your card dies
B. Shout at me if I'm not able to flash it, because the firmware isn't compatible.
C. Cover the cost of posting it to and fro

Hey
I finally got access to a working WinXP pc with PCMCIA slot...
I have not upgraded anything yet, but it looks as if I'm already on the most current version?
Should I still flash it? I did try the driver with my iPhone with PDANET but did not get it to work using WEP. Figured it was the firmware...
Thanks :)
Edit:
I tried to flash it anyway. This is the error I'm getting:
