Wow, I was not expecting it until tomorrow, Friday the 3rd, at the earliest.
Even Fed/X website showed it just leaving Memphis TN yesterday so I thought the 3rd would not even happen and be more like next week via ground service.
This shipped on Monday from the Amigakit in UK and arrived just 3 days later to my home.
Wow, is that awesome or what.
I guess Fed/X is using a super fast AmigaOne X1000 to run their operations now because I sure received mine fast fast fast.
Now, just need to find some time to open the box up.

Congratulations !!!!
You're lucky. But now, you have ALL to do.
-
I do not get it. How can you order Amiga X1000 when it is not for sale from the first place? It is not available in AmigaKit or any other amiga online store. So where did you exactly buy it from? I am super confused now.

A-eon announced a preorder scheme in conjunction with AmigaKit back in Oct. 2011. This preorder was referred to as "First Contact". That's where these units are coming from, but the order period for them ended some time ago, hence no more orders.
-
Any idea then when we can order these computers again? Are they planning on releasing new batches again and are there plans for future Amiga hardware development or this is the end for Amiga hardware?
-
Just a little video of the box and my excitement to just learn my AmigaOne X1000 arrived a day earlier than expected. Will do more videos of unboxing later when I am able.

@amigasociety
Congratulations! While I personally don't consider X1000 viable solution I'm sure you will have ton of fun with it.
If you have any spare time could you please try to run a small benchmark for us? Here are the instructions:
- Download AKsack.wav (http://sintonen.fi/temp/AKsack.wav)
- Download lame.lha (http://os4depot.net/index.php?function=showcontent&file=audio/record/lame.lha)
- Unarchive lame.lha and then run the following command:
lame-398-4/bin/lame.g4-3.98.2 AKsack.wav
- Post the result here.
Thank you in advance!
*EDIT* No need to anymore, as Hans_ was kind enough to post the results here:

Yep, I am actually typing this from the future right now :p
Anyway i think it's great these things have finally come out. It's been a long time coming. It gives me hope about NatAmi releasing something one day too :)

You're such a gentleman Piru. :-P
-
Piru,
I don't understand, how is running an mp3 encoder (Isn't that what lame is?) a good benchmark?
Wouldn't releasing render times against the nda? Wouldn't that violate the nda they had to sign? I'm curious myself if its ****ball slow as I suspect it will be...
I think high end g4 macs will be faster at this test, g5's even faster....
Would be interesting to see....
Oh the original poster, while I appreciate your excitement, posting a youtube video of a box is not quite as exciting as you must have imagined it would be for those of us watching that.... Oh boy! A box!
Steven

Thanks Piru and all other folks!
Would like to let you know I have a beefy Mac Mini G4 1.5GHz sitting right next to it with 3 matching external Hub/Drives (LaCie Mini & 2 MiniStacks) that will one day run MorphOS 3. :biglaugh:
I have the timing out 2.7 on it now as I just started tinkering and when I am able, and 3.0 MOS is out, I will also have a MiniMOS system to enjoy side by side with my X1000.

"lame" stands for: "lame ain't an MP3 encoder"

I have my X1000 running. Uploading a unboxing video to YouTube. As normal a bit dark in spots but will get the point across I am sure. I need to get better lighting for my place as it seems pictures and video is either grainy or dark because of poor lighting.
Will post a link soon once upload is done.
I also made another one turning on the X1000 for first time but it is even darker. My office seems to be the worst in the house for lighting. Will have to see if iMovie can lighten up a whole video but doubt it does that so you may have to live with it. :madashell:
Only issue I have is my case was dented. Appears Fed/X or whomever had their paws on it during transit to USA dented the vase. I see a puncture mark on both boxes and I have a nice quarter size ding on the right panel. So, have to now work with Amiga kit to get that replaced. I guess they will need to turn in a claim to carrier and all that crap. So, hope they get it all resolved. I spent enough cash where I want to have a pristine machine in front of me. Will save the boxes and all that as proof so I should be covered.
Other than that blemish, she is a beauty!

Not sure if you noticed in the video but I have a Mac Mini G4 1.5GHz MorphOS ready system with 3 external Mac Mini Drives under it for bookoo storage and hubs.
Therefore plan is to learn and use both OS 4.1 and MorphOS.
Best of both worlds.

LOL. After watching your videos i suddenly have an urge to go out and buy a Sam or x500. If i watched these videos 2 weeks i probably would have as i had the money but i bought a surfboard instead :(
Enjoy your new Amiga :)

A very nice setup you have there Amigasociety, real shame about the damage to the case, not that surprising though.

Hope you get it sorted. And I hope you enjoy your new Amiga.

****! So did you complain? What happened next? :roflmao:
It could have been even worse than that though. It could have been a prop in Cast Away and ended up being called Wilson with a smiling face painted on the front

All I've seen so far is a user drawing a conclusion based on what Trevor apparently sent him in an email.

Next phase could mean many things. Why being so vague? Something like new batch of X1000 would have been clearer.

Yeah, why are people building stories on a bit of hearsay? Especially a bit of hearsay that tells the hearer absolutely nothing....

Congratulations. :D

Grats! Hope you enjoy it.

My jaws dropped at how fast the AmigaOS 4.1 booted. It toke less than 2 seconds from the AmigaOS screen logo to desktop....BANG, FINISHED.
I would sell all my computers in home and get an AmigaOS 4.1 (including windows XP) in a heart beat if AmigaOS 4.1 had all the software libraries that Windows had, from games to software development. I would not even think twice about it.
I would diffidently make it my forever permanent OS if AmigaOS 4.1 had security level equivalent to linux and better and prevent people from modifying startup-sequence and accessing the system directory if you are not an admin.
I would carve it stone if those two where there in AmigaOS 4.1 that I would use only AmigaOS 4.1 in companies (and if I had one) and in my company.
I suppose I would just have to close my eyes and dream, one day, oh, one day.
-
Win 7 still boots quicker, or as quick - as OS4.
With the exact same SSD in my PC vs. my SAM 440ep, Win 7 vs. OS4, neck in neck.
Startup or reboot times mean very little on desktop machines, I find. I reboot my main PC, or my SAM for that matter - once a month, tops.
-
Your PC is undoubtedly orders of magnitude faster than a SAM.
That's hardly a fair comparison.

Depending on how long it is going to take Hyperion to finish the drivers for the onboard sound and Ethernet, they might hesitate on doing the second (public sale) production run of X1000's. If the drivers are close to being done, it would make more sense to wait until they are finished, instead of having to purchase a matching bunch of sound cards and Ethernet cards. I don't know how hard it is to source those two cards, or what their price is. Obviously it is preferable to have the onboard devices supported, instead of needing to use the older supported cards.
I have no knowledge if this is what is going on, but it makes sense to me. We should have some information from A-Eon & AmigaKit after they are done assembling, testing and shipping all of the "First Contact" X1000 systems to the buyers.
I just want to see how fast the next production run of X1000's sell out? "First Contact" X1000's sold out in less than 36 hours, so we know there is still more demand for X1000's from people that did not order in that short time frame.
Will the 2nd public production run sell out in 2 days, 2 weeks, or 2 months?
-
Next time x1000 with drivers, at least 1000eur more.

If you don't like the price of the X1000, why haven't you and other users done more to convince Hyperion that they need to port OS4 to the cheaper, but still very fast and reliable G4 and G5 Mac computers? Maybe a petition could show Hyperion that such a port is what is needed if 500 to 1,000 or more users signed it stating that they would purchase a port of OS4 to one or more of the G4/G5 Mac models. Of course that will never happen and Hyperion will probably never port OS4 to any PPC Mac computers.
And the OS4.x users will be forced to continue to pay high prices, or settle for the low performance of the OS4.x Netbook that is next on Hyperion's list of supported hardware.
If enough users ask for things to change, maybe Hyperion will start to listen. Or not?
Or maybe you have no interest in the future of OS4.x and just like to post smart remarks on forums instead.
