The latest games TM magazine rates the Amiga as the 9th greatest games machine of all time. Ahead of the Game Boy, NES, ZX Spectrum, C64, Gamecube and PC. The list is out of 15 that were voted for on the games TM website.
The complete list goes:
15: Game Boy
14: NES
13: ZX Spectrum
12: Commodore 64
11: Gamecube
10: PC
9: AMIGA
8: Playstation 3
7: Dreamcast
6: Mega Drive
5: Nintendo 64
4: Playstation
3: Playstation 2
2: Super NES
1: XBOX 360
Think games TM need to do a bit more research as it mentions at the end -
Quote:
Amiga gamers famously refused to let go of the format for years after the demise of Commodore in 1994, and, if the resluts of the games TM poll are anything to go by, that passion still burns strongly to this day.
Who needs a poll. Just look at any of the Amiga communities to see it first hand (http://amigaworld.net/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Good grief, xbox 360 at #1? What ever they were smoking, don't want any. I don't agree with any of these rankings at all.

Suppose it should be mentioned that this poll was conducted from their website. I never saw anything mentioned about this in any of the recent magazine issues. I think all these polls should be taken with a huge dose of salt anyway.

Why did they add PS1, PS2 and PS3 and not the old Xbox. This one also needs to put in the list. It hasn't have a large games library as the PS2, but has better graphics and faster loading times from DVD with HD as cache.

Looking through the breakdown of votes for consoles the XBOX was never mentioned. What got me was the fact the PC was flanked on both sides by the Amiga and the C64. Actually the Amiga got the most votes for the home computers. Normally the Amiga never gets a look in on polls like this. So actually I was pleased with the outcome.

possibly need more research. This kind of publicactions or polls maybe are answered by young people who never knew Amiga and others Old Systems. Maybe just hear about, but never knew.

They sucked on the pipe of corporate brainwashing and mass media. That's what it does to you. I also don't agree with any of these rankings at all and I still own half the machines on the list, but hey, I saw a "Best films of 2011" list the other day that included "Human Centipede 2". WTF, for some people crack and meth are names for mealtimes.

Shows a certain amount of ignorance regarding the many Amiga models that played the games though I guess to the general gaming guys these days there was only an Amiga. If they lumped the PS's together they would have come top. Interesting about the XBOX or no Elite... And the PC in all its many forms still can't be treated as a serious gaming machine.
Here's a good lump of machines from my collection.

and I have one of everyone of those gaming machines on that list here and I still would rank the PS1 as the best gaming console of all time. The xbox is top cus its the junk of preference at the moment. I have two Elites.. I use them to hold a shelf up. Without a Live account which you have to pay for you can't use the thing. And with a Live account you get exposed to Microsoft spam which you cannot cancel. Trust me I tried. And in the end I just dumped the Live mail account and junked the machines in pref for the PS3 which I don't have to pay to play. Saying that I mostly play Rift and Warcraft and STO on the PC anyway.... whoops. Wash my mouth out.

Well at least we beat PC, and no sign of Atari :)

Yeah, as with all "List" and "Polls", it all depends on the audience. I am sure if you did this poll on this site we all know who'd be hands down #1. However, I'd love to hear what people thought was the top systems to IMPACT gaming overall. I think we'd see Atari and C64 on top - even over our beloved Amigas - and the NES and Sega Genesis coming in close behind!
-
Hehe... they said resluts.

The other thing with polls like this is the interpretation factor inherent in the question itself. "Greatest" could be interpreted in so many different ways. Most powerful, most games, most quality games, best data throughput (most optimized hardware if you prefer) or even best looking, most ergonomic controller etc... etc..
All this before even taking into account that people miss out on games they may love or hate because they just didn't hear about them or couldn't find a copy or even because they hadn't been born when some of these machines came out. As long as you find enjoyment in the ones you spend your hard earned cash on that's what really matters.
