Dear Friends:
I am looking to buy a new amiga system (I currently have an a1200 which I use for art)
I need to either pick an amiga 500 or a cd32. I can only pick one as I have no more room.
I only want the system for playing amiga games.
I rather get the a500...but I am also tempted to get cd32 instead.
Please give me pros and cons about these two systems and which one to get.
I don't need anything about productivity....this system will be to play games only.
Please give me advice !!!

CD32 has 2MB chipmem, AGA and cd as standard. There are quite a few cd32 games and most a500/a1200 games can be played on the cd32 from compilation cd's. No keyboard as standard means some a500/a1200 games no written for the cd32 may not work properly like Pinball dreams etc.. Expanding the CD32 (Ram, cpu, hard drive etc..) is usually very expensive as expansions are rare.
A500 will have either 512K or 1MB chip, no cd and no AGA. But you do have the keyboard and 99% of all older floppy games will work no problem. Expanding the RAM or getting a hard drive or cd-rom is relatively cheap. There will soon be the ACA520 accelerator which should be pretty cheap too. You can also get the Indivision ECS scandoubler/flickerfixer.
Put simply, if you don't want to hassle with upgrades etc.. the cd32 is a great all-rounder. If you want to spend a little money and upgrade, then an A500 with 2MB chipmem plus some fastram and a hard drive will make a great whdload machine, though some newer aga only games will not work.

If you already have a 1200 a CD32 doesn't give you that much. 1200 is more expandable and has the same AGA chipset. You gain a few CD32 specific games and it is very portable.
An A500, you have more expandability and ability to run some of the more finnicky games that wont run on expanded systems, or systems without OCS, or with non 68000.

Thanks for the replies. I rather have the keyboard instead of the cd feature.
All i want is to play old games from floppies, so if a500 can play 99% of those,
that is definitely the system i want to get.
And since I have already an a1200 i dont need AGA anymore.
It looks like i will surely get the amiga 500.

For old games from floppy, definately a 500. It'll run just about anything that isn't AGA.
Do make sure it has 1 megabyte of RAM though. With 512 kb (without the RAM expansion) it'll be very poor, as most games require 1 MB.
If you can find one with some extra RAM, some games would have extra sound effects etc, like Hired Guns or Walker

The CD32 is retarded. Don't buy that crap.
At least the A500 w/ all the tumor-addons looks kinda neat.
Get a CD-32 controller. The rest of it is trash.
