Title: Upgrading ram on Blizzard
Post by: dougal on January 19, 2012, 02:10:15 PM
On the manual of the Phase5 Blizzard 1260 it says the card has to be out of the Amiga to change / install the memory simm.

Its not about the work involved but rather i don't want to put any strain on the card or the amiga by removing and re-installing.

Can't i just disconnect all the cables (power, monitor, joysticks etc..) and change the simm while the card is still in the trapdoor slot?

I imagine they don't want you to be putting pressure on the board when you push the SIMM into the socket, flexing it in the middle is probably worse than taking it out (if you're careful).

Yeah, I suspect that's it. In the A1200 case the Blizzard doesn't have much support behind it apart from the small plastic rail along the side. It's very easy to bend it, possibly damaging the board or the connection to the A1200. It's not likely to be something you'll do all that often, so I'd suggest removing it, fitting the RAM and refitting it.
