Title: task kill. scout.
Post by: kas1e on January 10, 2004, 12:49:33 AM
hi all. i have little question about task killing in aos 3.x:
for example i want 'CLEAR' kill ibrowse task/windows/etc. so, i kill task by 'scout'.

next, i try run agayn ibrowse. ooops. 'cant run application'.
and all mui apps have this problem.

so, my question - how i can 'clear' kill my task ? this possible by scout ? maybe other tools ? maybe need more ?

thnx all to answer.

In order to kill IBrowse & restart it clearly, I use Sysinspector 1.4 :

I kill IBrowse task & all the IBrowseNetworks tasks (left hanging with the PPC-WarpDTs), and I have to remove the IBrowse_ModuleHandler manualy from the memory handlers.

Do a last flushlibs, and you're ready to go another IB session! ;-)

hello cass. thnx for answer. so i run IB and SysInspector:

1. from 'tasks'  remove the 'ibrowse'.  select all resources for free (screens, windows, ports, etc).

2. from 'memory handlers' remove 'Ibrowse_modulehandler'

3.  12.system:> flushlibs
idefix.library FLUSHED
WarpJPEG.datatype FLUSHED
muiconfig.library FLUSHED
muirexx.library FLUSHED
Busy.mcc FLUSHED
Gauge.mui FLUSHED
muihelp.library FLUSHED

so, now i run IB agayn, and have "failed to create application" :(   maybe need more ?

btw, i try this and in scout too. anyway .. ib can't run agayn  :) what need kill more ?:)

Killing tasks isn't supported under AmigaOS. It's dirty and hacky and it's absolutely guaranteed that it'll eventually make the machine crash. Best just to reboot when IB dies on you.

I have noticed the same problem. As late as today I needed to remove YAM because a script executed sunchronuosly by YAM hanged as it tried to access YAM which was sleeping waiting for the script ;)
But even if I removed YAM, the commoditie, all ports associated and stuff I still could not start another copy of YAM.

I think muimaster.library has an internal list of all programs started so it will always know if a program has been started even if everything else is removed. Even the commoditie, which normally is used to achieve this single mode causing the "Could not create applicating (because another one is already running)" message is not enought to be removed but muimaster needs to be removed. This means that you will have to close all MUI programs (which is alot of work, atleast for me; AmIRC, YAM, IBrowse, DagensTV, Onyx Prelude, Miami(!!), AmiStart and DRemind always running in the background).

This is what I think....

btw, i can't remove IBRowse from 'commodities' in any case .. strange.

what about 'close all mui programm' .. for example i run Jabberwocky. kill jabberwocky task. (only task, and window/etc). and run jabberwocky agayn - it run perfectly. Jabberwocky of course is a mui programm, but .. run. and not said me 'failed to create apps'... and as i see, memory deallocated after killing task too.

maybe need some 'hack/patch' of mui libraries ?
maybe need remove some libraries from memory and
load agayn ? anyway, need some way for 'clear kil' of ALL MUI apps ..
