Quick note to all Amigans. It seems my accounts on Amiga.org (and Amigans and Amiga.net) were hacked by person or persons unknown.
Anyway, thanks to the speedy Amiga.org administrators I an now back in control (of my Amiga.org account at least).
Happy New Year

:roflmao:This X-File was easily solved Trevor...what a great prelude to the introduction of the First Contact X1000 systems coming out soon:pint:
bet you the trolls that hacked into your accounts didn't foresee the positive spin on their stupidity:laughing:

Moral of the story:
For those worried that their passwords may have been compromised, please note that this site's database does not store them in a retrievable form (for the technically minded, it's a randomly-salted one-way hash). Weak, guessable passwords and using the same passwords on multiple sites are what can get you into trouble.
So, make them longer, stronger and have a shorter use-by date on them.
-
You'd think if a troll were going to go to all that trouble, they'd post something more entertaining and less easily refuted...

Indeed vBulletin hash security is rather good. However to be 100% technically accurate it should be: "in a easily retrievable form". It's possible to attack even salted vBulletin hashes, just a lot slower. Of course you'd need to get hold of the hashes somehow, first.

You weren't here?
@Karlos. Don't forget about the master password thingy FF wants you to always do. Very tempting.

Happy New Year Trevor and Happy to see you back.

Don't know how this happened Trevor, but please do what you can to prevent it from happening again. My heart may not take another shock like that one.
Glad to see it was not true. I guess those few that said "I told you so" have some crow to eat.
Enjoy the meal guys!

I think Piru explained well how the hack may have happened. I think that Trevor may have been guilty of using the same password on all three sites, or perhaps Trevor's computer has been breached and hacked to obtain his passwords.
What ever the cause, I hope that it is all corrected now, for Trevor's peace of mind, and more than that, I am just glad that it turned out to be a hoax.
I sent in my deposit money for my "First Contact" AmigaOne X1000 today and I am excited that it will not be too long now before it is in my hands.
I wonder if it was just a coincidence that the hoax happened on the same day that the emails requesting the deposits to be paid was sent out?
Reminder to all "First Contact" X1000 buyers, we have a Social Group started here on A.org for you to join and discuss your systems.
-
Geesh, I step out for the day with just my crappy cellphone and an uncooperative Verizion network. Then all hell breaks out. Glad it got sorted out.
-
Welcome back Trevor, thanks for helping Trevor with his account Karlos.
-
I gotta question...When is the A-Eon website going to be updated?
It has the same info on it that was there over a year ago.
-
@AmigaDave,
Yes, it's as @Piru suggested I had the same password for all my main Amigan forums. Fortunately I use other passwords for everthing else. I have now made all the passwords different.
Anyway, it's good to be back as me. ;-)

Eh! I think you had better look again.

I'd just like to point out in as much a non-trollish fashion as I can how Trevor is doing it RIGHT in regards to comms with the Amiga user base...
Glad things got fixed and best of luck!
-
Good to hear it was a hoax and I'm glad it was sorted out before I even knew anything about it.

I stand corrected, the News link has been updated.

I don't mean to start a witch hunt, but thinking more generally on this whole incident, it seems as though we've got a real sociopath somewhere in our midst. Someone went to the bother of compromising Trevor's account(s) and simultaneously cross-posting at all the Amiga forums. We've all got our preferences and subtle (or not so subtle) biases regarding the various post-Classic machines, but the level of effort required for this hack of an infinitesimally small community is symptomatic of someone in need of a mental health intervention. In the grand scheme of things, the Amiga just isn't worth it.
(Maybe it was Doomy? :)

Obviously someone who doesn't want OS4 and the AmigaOne X1000 to succeed. To announce that Trevor was quitting it's a clear sign.

@Trevor
I had personaly just assumed you had switched companys, taken up acting and been advertising a well known brand of UK breakfast cereal.

No, it's not him. But I suspect it's the same guy who goes though all the AmigaOS 4 YouTube videos and gives them dislikes.
If he have the time to do this, then he have the time for other shady activities.

More likely it was just done for the laughs than anything else. Or as others describe it, "for teh lulz!!11!".
