Howdy from just north of Dallas in the great state of Texas! I am a new poster to these forums, but I have been reading them for years.
A little history: my first usable computer was a C64 in the mid to late 80's, which I loved, and was my gateway drug into the wonderful world of Amiga.
I have an A500, sadly mostly nonfunctional these days, and a towerized A1200 which I have been working on off and on for the last 15 years.
I love computers in general, but the Amiga always was my favorite.
Looking forward to conversing with fellow Amiga enthusiasts :)

Welcome!

Thank you Duce :)

Welcome. I used to do some oilfield work around Denton.
Any plans on what you want to do with your A1200 tower? I have 2 A1200s in tower cases and 1 still in the wedge. I'd suggest an Indivision SDFF and a Subway USB card if you haven't already got them. :)

Welcome aboard.

I am in the killeen, fort hood surrounding area here.
just ask if you need some amiga help and we can fix you up.

Hi Darrin, as a matter of fact, I live in Denton.
I am just starting to get back into the world of Amiga, so I welcome all suggestions for improving the A1200. I definitely have the Subway USB on my wishlist. I'm not familiar with the Indivision SDFF, I take it that's a graphics card? I currently have a Cybervision 64/3d MKII, but like to see what would be a better option.
edit: I must be half asleep. SDFF = scandoubler flicker fixer. lol glad to see my noob hat still fits

Thanks Karlos :)
Howdy to a fellow Texas denizen, Mech :)

Not quite the Denton near where I live, I suspect. Unless you mean "near" as in in the same hemisphere.

The Indivision is not a graphics card (the ECS version does have some cool tricks though), it's a scandoubler/flickerfixer that allows you to achieve higher resolutions without flickering on the native chipset. You can use it to get flicker-free 1024x768 resolutions out of your AGA chipset, for example. However, you are still limited by the capabilities of AGA in terms of performance and colour depth. A graphics card is still the only option if you wanted, say a 1024x768 (or higher) high/true-colour display.

My brain belatedly informed me what SDFF stood for :) I had a scandoubler, before I got the Cybervison. The name of it escapes me though, that was a good 10 years or so ago. Thanks for setting me straight anyway :)

Hi there.
The Indivision is a scan doubler/flicker fixer for the native modes and also promotes the PAL screens to 60Hz so you'll have no trouble putting any native display on a new LCD monitor.
Also, Ratte (a regular poster on the forums) wrote a really nice monitor driver to allow you a widescreen native 256 colour AGA mode (1280x720) and a HiGFX mode (1024x768). These are great for people with no graphics card installed, but if you have a CV64-3D installed (how is that connected?) then you're better off with that (much faster and more colours).
I have a CV64-3D card myself. Really the only way to improve on that is to go for a Mediator PCI bus board and use a Radeon PCI graphics card. I have a 256MB Radeon card in my A4000 and I run a 32bit Workbench screen at 1920x1080 and it is smooth and responsive (even with my 68040).
Edit: Karlos must have been typing the same time I was. :D

My Cybervision is plugged into a zorro 3 slot of the ZIV baseboard. I hope to get a mediator pci at some point, available funds allowing. :)

Welcome!!! :)

Thanks :)

Have I seen you floating around EAB and AW? You look familiar lol.

Hi,
@anachronicus,
(darn you sure have a hard avatar name to spell)
Welcome aboard,
Are you a Dallas Cowboy fan?
and is it true what they say about Texas.
that
There are only two things in Texas, queers and steers,
aw heck you probably heard this before, so you know the ending.
I own a A4000, A3000, A1000, A500 and CD32, oh I forgot I also have 2 A500's. I just finished my A1200 tower project and it turned out pretty good, one of these days I will have to take pictures and post them here at Amiga.org, home of the best bunch of loonies in the world. If you have any questions about what to get for your A1200 tower don't be afraid to ask, we are all here to help.
and by the way
the PITTSBURGH STEELERS ROCK
and I don't see any horns on your head.
(just joking)

Oddly in all the years I've been on this earth, the "steers and queers" comment has never upset a single Texan I know.
I suspect they created the myth to throw us off some true agenda....

Welcome, Come in there's plenty of room....

Possibly AW, although I've not been on there in quite some time. I guess I should go see if I can still remember my login over there :)

Thanks! Would the deities prefer catfish or ribs? :)

Heya Smerf,
Yes, I am a Cowboys fan, although we haven't had much to cheer about lately. And I most definitely have horns, I just keep 'em hidden. :P
I really wanted a CD32 when they came out, but never got around to getting one. Such is life. What kind of tower did you use for your A1200?

I can neither confirm nor deny the validity of that suspicion.... :)

Welcome.. I lived in the Sherman/Denision area for a few years back in the early 90's (92-93). It was strange at that time most of the computer shops back home in Connecticut all carried Amiga. When I moved to TX it was an odd awakening as most of the computer shops were no longer selling Amiga and had moved on to PC. Anyway Welcome to the board.
