hi guys!
i bought a 1200 off ebay a while ago, but i recently realised that it had a chip thingy in it. upon closer inspection i didn't find out anything apart from the name, and that if it was in my 1200 it caused problems (that's probably cause a switch is wrongly set or somthing)
could someone tell me some details, how good it is etc?
thanks
pics of it, (60kb big each) (http://www.cyberfingers.com/pics/apollo thingy/)

well that mil spec looking chip is a 68030....

The images clearly show it's an Apollo1230 card with a 030/28Mhz and 4Mb Ram. Looking at it I think the HD jumper should be closed. If that won't help getting the computer stable try change the simm (the card can take simms up to 32Mb for a total of 64Mb). There's an FPU on the card (68881/28Mhz). Estimated speed improvement with such a card is roughly about 6-7times that of a normal A1200 and the FPU speed up math calculasions alot helping out with 3D games, renders and packing tools. SCSI controller is onboard (the 26pin connector is to attach a 25pin DS), speed 3.5Mb/s.

Looks like the Apollo 1230 board that has....
68030 CPU
68881 math co
4MB fast RAM
on-board SCSI controller.
The Apollo series were not known for their stability. Also, any 030 + RAM card in an A1200 will lower the number of games that work properly. A program such as Degrader, TUDE, WHDLOAD, JST, or whatever will fix lots of problems for you, though.
I can't seem to find a jumper configuration sheet for the card... But there is clearly a picture of it at Amiga Resource (http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/search.pl?product=apollo1230) (The top card on the page)

thanks guys
any ideas on how much these things go for?
:-)
or is it not worth the hassle and just keep it?

Hmm.. old forum backups seem to have strolled in...
No not worth the hazzle... at least not untill you got something better... will only get you around 25-35$.
On you're question if they can have any more memory than 64Mb with extras the short answerr is no. The long answerr is yes if you get a tower and a zorro bussboard and a zorro memory card but on the turbo itself the anserr is no.
