Title: Help with A3000 3.9 BB4 Prefs won't load
Post by: touringsedan on December 23, 2011, 01:49:28 PM
Recently bought my first A3000D 68030/16 and after learning the hard way on installing ZIP ram, its booting up and running fine.

The issue I have is that I bought a SCSI-2 Compact Flash reader which boots up my old compact flash that worked great with my old Amiga 4000D. It had AmigaOS 3.9 w/BB4.

This boots great on the 3000, except the first issue that something is wrong is most of the preferences won't launch and some applications won't launch either.

None give any indication as to why, you double click and they ignore you.

So I can't really do much with it as I can't even change the Screen Mode.

Now I would just reinstall 3.9 but I have to wait for a SCSI-2 cd rom to arrive and I am challenged to figure this out.

My guess is I have some libraries that aren't happy on my A3000 as this image was created using an A4000D.

Any tips would be great, I will start the process of elimination today.

The issue was that I was skipping Setpatch as it was causing a Guru that I hadn't resolved yet.

Wasn't aware that 'workbench.library' won't work without setpatch having already been executed.

Most applications require the 'workbench.library' to open on 3.9.

Now, the issue with Setpatch failing was a bad ZIP memory chip. Once replaced the guru's stopped and everything starting working correctly.

Did I mention that I think ZIP memory is the worst I have ever had to pleasure of using in over 25 years of working on computers.
