Title: An idea for anyone trying to sell...
Post by: kd7ota on December 23, 2011, 05:28:33 AM
Hello,

So I am a bit surprised that nobody has brought up the idea for taking pictures with your username and today's date next to the item you're selling. That should be required for anyone attempting to sell something. If a picture is not posted, then the thread should be deleted.

Maybe it's been brought up, but this way at least you know the person attempting to sell has the item and not just a quick "Hello I have this 060 Phase 5 accelerator for an Amiga 1200. Wanting $400"

Any other suggestions? :)

I like pics as much as the next guy, but there are plenty of us here that can be trusted. Allocvec comes to mind as does Redrumloa, Pan1K and several others.

If you're a newbie with no friends, little posting experience and don't have the gee-whiz to fill out the location part of your profile - YES, but all means.... take the extra step of photographing your goods so that we make *think* you're legit.

...and if you're new here, but have experience selling elsewhere (ie: eBay, AtariAge, Amibay, NintendoAge, KLOV), don't be afraid to point us to your references...

What is your problem?

How strict do the rules need to be on a forum anyway?  Pictures are not required even on eBay, nor should they be required here.

EDIT: And if you pay with PayPal, there is automatic buyer protection.

What are you trying to prevent or promote?  How would you know they didn't get the picture off of ebay or somewhere else?  Bandwidth might become a problem if the picture is not 480 by 640.

I'm more likely to mistrust someone with very few posts than someone with no pictures.

I remember looking for a 1260 a while back and one popped up on here by somebody called princess something (with pictures) and just one post. I'm not saying it was not legit. I'm just saying I passed that one up...

Fair enough on pictures, but requests for Paypal only as a gift or donation (which is not reversible if you end up with an A4000 box with a couple of cola bottles inside) needs to banned.

If you can't be trusted to use Paypal in the same way as ebay sellers are required to do so for people who can't collect then your thread should be locked and a MOD should message you to say payment methods open to fraud/abuse are not welcome on this family friendly forum.

Yeah, Princess Isabella is better known over at AtariAge.
