Title: Rdesktop and DvPlayer problems
Post by: Delta on December 20, 2011, 12:48:36 AM
So far my OS4 experience is great on the SAM460 but I have 2 frustrations and would be grateful for some help:

Rdesktop: When I enter the ip adress, login and pw for my Win7 PC all I get is a rdesktop icon that goes sit on the left of my screen then nothing happens....  Its a registered version so it should support win7....then what am I doing wrong?

Dvplayer can't play squat...if I try to load a DVD I get a Async io error that never goes away and finally hangs the whole machine...  then again wtf am I doing wrong?

If anybody has helpful advices you are welcome :)

Thank you

For remote desktop I use VNC... seems much better/stable with TwinVNC with is a full-featured VNC client... DVPlayer works fine on my Peg II playing DVDs...

Just my 0.02...

Cheers,

Dragster.

My SAM460 DVPlayer works fine without your Async io error but, I get no audio when playing a DVD. I haven't had time to dink around with it at all yet though. :( You're trying to play a DVD? Is your optical drive connected to a SATA multi-port card or the on-board SAM SATA connector?

For some reasons now it seems to try to read the dvd but shows a blank screen on Dvplayer.  No sound either.  I'm connected on a sil3114 4 ports card along with the HDD.

@Delta.... Have you registered over at Hyperion's new forum yet? This is all software related or SAM460 hardware configuration related, but I'm not sure which. I was wishing someone would bring this up on the new forum. It's odd that no one else complains about DVPlayer for the SAM460 except me. I understand that there is a problem with the default program install location in AmigaKit's configured shipped product too. Maybe you've run into it? ssolie knows about it and it's supposed to get fixed with the next update. Anyhoo, maybe bring it up on Hyperion's forum.

RDesktop kind of works with Win 7 and is faster than VNC. I use both :-P .

In Windows 7 you need to change a setting and I will typ this translated from swedish by me so excuse me if it isn't perfect. I hope that you'll understand. I also think that this is mentioned in the RDesktop docs but...

Right-click on the "Computer" icon (either start-menu or if you have it on the desktop), choose "Properties", choose Remote settings (or whatever it is called). There you will find three options under "Remote Desktop". Choose the one in the middle. Click "OK".

Not being in front of my Amiga right now but I think that I've just typed in the password used to log into Windows, IP-number and that's it.

Things that doesn't work with Win 7 is that sound isn't played over network which worked with Win XP. Also when you move windows graphics isn't redrawn correctly (you'll see what I mean).

When using VNC I use TwinVNC in AOS 4 and on the PC I use TightVNC and it works great as well but not as fast.

Thanks for the help but when I am in the remote desktop properties in win7 there is only one option called "allow remote assistance for this computer".  Are you sure about the location of this option?  I have a Home edition btw...not Pro.

Some hope for Dvplayer, I am now able to play an AVI but without sound :P

I even reinstalled with the version from their website and still no audio. I think it's all related to the damned unfinished audio driver.

Aha, then it won't work AFAIK, you need another edition (I think Pro, Bussiness, Ultimate will work). Stick with VNC then, like I wrote TightVNC and TwinVNC works fine.

Hotrod your nickname is well chosen!

The codecs did the trick, I can now play a DVD with sound!  Now if only they could update that driver to remove the crackling noise :P

As for Rdesktop I wonder if Win7home should be or will be supported....vnc is an option of course but i'd rather use what i've paid for.

Thanks!

You can't use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to computers running Windows 7 Starter, Windows 7 Home Basic, or Windows 7 Home Premium.

Yes you can! Simple Reg Hack for all versions! No Problem! I have done it for many clients! Google it! Sorry, not trying to be rude! I gotta get home! Still at the shop! :hammer:

Bit more than a reg hack, some files need copying. But have you done it since SP1? The previous methods fail for me on SP1 systems.
