Greetings,
As I clean my basement the other day, I found my box full of my old Amiga Magazine(Amazing Computing, Amiga World and some RUN). It's funny but I kind of stop what I'm doing bend down and read them again. That would take me an hour or two before I snap out of it and remember I need to attend to something else. It still gives me that smile once in awhile at the same time sadness and bitterness about their amiga-ads that once written there or the publication it used to circulate before. . . I used to read them endlessly, but, of course it's old it dies down. Not the same feeling as a new one would give. Anyone here still reads old mags(that is if you haven't sold them yet)?

Hi,
I know someone who would be interested to get a scan of your old mags, look at here : http://www.bombjack.org/commodore/
As for me, even if I tend to keep everything I can, I admit that computers mags were the first on the fly to garbage.
Yet, some time ago, I found on price minister a complete collection of the first programming mag I had in hand.
When I got it and read it, it was so weird to recall pictures and articles from the depth of my memory. It was like a flash of past coming into my mind.
It was a french mag principally devoted to pocket computers (Sharp, Casio, etc ...) but gave me the curiosity of learning programmation.
It showed too how costly were the computers at this time, and how fortunate we are now to get the old computers of our dream for nothing or so !
-
The old magazines are a fantastic resource. In addition to the historical perspective, I always appreciate learning about forgotten programs, tools, or techniques that haven't become widely known in the internet era.
-
Ditto. I get a lot of enjoyment out of reading my old mags. Have nearly a complete set of AmigaWorld and Amazing Computing and have been really getting back into Compute! these days too. Vic, C64, TI, ST, Amiga, Apple - loads of fun re-reading peoples input/probs/complaints/tips, the games that could be typed in and just the general enthusiastic attitude everyone had back then regarding this particular hobby. Really takes me back to when times were much better that way. I cherish my mag collections as much as I do the rest of the hardware and software I collect.

@gizz72
Well said. Yes, I still read them now and then -- and I think I have a tear in my eye at times. :-(
-
I came across some of my old Amiga World mags sometime ago and spent a good 45 minutes to an hour reading through them. I miss getting them in the mail and sitting down in front of my Amiga 500 and reading it and dreaming of havig more money to buy all the goodies.

Although I have just about every magazine ever scanned (many now lost because sites went down) there's nothing like having real magazines to read. The earlier the better.
-
I have every issue of Amiga Format bar 2, and every Amiga Format annual bar 2......
I have the first issue of Your Computer (Australia) and the very first issue of Australian Commodore Review.
I have heaps of The One, Run! and Compute Magazines sitting in boxes downstairs....
-
I love to read old CU, Amigaworld,Datormagazin(norwegian)C+VG an so on..
Brings back a lot of memories:-)

Do you have the last two issues (88/89?) of The ONE AMIGA?

Early mags like TV Gamer were amazing too because it was the start of home video games (VCS/COLECO/Intellivision/Vectrex/G7000 etc) and obviously I had never seen computers outside Star Wars/Battlestar Galactica.
-
I scanned all of mine over a period of a couple years.. it isn't the same as a paper zine, but I'm really glad to be rid of the 15 milk crates full of paper. ;-)
One thing that would make a really handy community project would be an index to all these scanned magazines. I've got a couple of indices to one or two zines... but that's about it.

I have the first issue of Your Computer (Australia) and the very first issue of Australian Commodore Review.
I am very interested in preserving the Your Computer magazines. I got in touch with Les Bell (the founder and editor), but doesn't have any copies, even for his own use. The Your Computer Bumper Book of Pocket Programs is available on my page at http://amigan.1emu.net/aw/ but nothing else seems to be available. Would it be possible for you to scan the issue you have? That would be greatly appreciated.

Yes certainly possible. There was only 30,000 copies made of issue 1.
There was a big fire at the Your Computer office and all the issues they had there were destroyed. They even printed an advert requesting for people who had issues to send them in so they could be preserved.
I dont know how well this went, not so well by the sounds of it.
I'm in the process of scanning Amiga / ST format and all of Amiga Format magazines (missing two issues and two of the annuals) but can interrupt that and scan this issue. Give me a week, are you an Aussie?

I'd have to check in my 30 odd boxes of magazines I have downstairs.

I have the permission to scan and distribute the "Amiga Magazin". It was well known in Germany. Perhaps other here get permissions for "English" magazines too. It is a great source for tips. courses ...

I thought Amiga Format had already been scanned (by Mort or someone), but I could be mistaken.
>Give me a week, are you an Aussie?
Yes (Canberra).

+1,000,000
There was nothing like waiting for all those great Amiga magazines and drooling over the dozens of pages of paid advertising for all those Amiga peripherals that I couldn't quite afford at the time (but ended up getting most of them second hand later).
I would read those magazines over and over again within the first few weeks of getting them. It was a very sad day when they stopped publishing many of my favorite Amiga magazines. I still enjoy reading them now (specially since my alzhiemer's is kicking in, it makes them like new reading again) and I am still trying to complete my collection of many different Amiga and Video Toaster/Flyer related magazines, so if anyone has magazines they want to sell (or give away), please contact me.
I don't need a lot more magazines to complete my collection, as I probably have close to 1,000 magazines already, but you might have some that I am missing. It is good to see that many people are preserving magazines online, so that valuable info is not lost completely over time. I hope that is is always being done with proper permission of the publishers.

You can actually download (or even upload) some of the old mags from the online Internet Archive. This would help to preserve them for eternity. > http://www.archive.org/details/computermagazines
I don't read them anymore (like ACE, The One etc) because I no longer have them now, but certainly would love to....I miss my old mags.

And here's another great resource of those old mags:

i'd read my old mags but they probably still smell of smoke... do not smoke...

Hello, just wondering what the current status of this is?

Just yesterday I was looking for the title to my car and got distracted with an Amiga World 1994( RoboCop on the cover) I put it aside and later I read the article " WarpEngine Vs. G-Force 040" ... ha even came across a few things I circled in pen on few adverts of things I wanted. :).

I really would like if some scans of "Amiga Magazin" have been made. Can't find any on the Web ;-(

I acquired about 250 issues of various amiga magazines earlier this year, and its probably my favorite amiga thing Ive gotten ahold of for quite some time. As mentioned already there's just so much good information in them that's not online as yet, and having the physical media is so much better than pdf scans (of which I have roughly 500 of as well).
Not sure "rare" is the right word, but there's stuff amongst what I got that Id not seen or heard of before. Besides the usual suspects (CU Amiga, Amiga Format, AmigaShopper (great mag by the way, Id never read it back in the Amiga's heyday), AUI, Amiga Computing, The One, ACAR, etc.) there was also stuff like AmigaDownUnder, OZ Amiga, 24Bit and Pieces, Amiga Workbench, and some others. Also some non amiga specific stuff and some c64 mags (with some great tutorials and technical docs too).
While Im still wrapped with my find, it has caused a few problems.
1. A bit of a swap card like compulsion has developed and I have a strong need to complete the sets of magazines I dont have every issue of.
2. The sheer wealth of information contained within is distracting me from actually doing anything with that information (that is to say Im spending way too much time reading, and not much doing) :)

AMR only seems to have scans of the odd page here and there, I'd like full issues of them all if possible as my old mags are in boxes at my folks place mainly.
I bought some DVDs with all of CU Amiga and Amiga Computing on in PDF which are great. Wondering if there are Amiga Format issues in full anywhere for download?

I guess I have what you would call a pretty large collection of Amiga magazines plus all the cover disks. It would take me an eternity to scan them all and maybe one day I'll gift them all to someone prepared to carry out the task... Given that loads are already on the web it would be a case of just filling in the blanks... Not sure this set of mags has been scanned yet and I have all the copies plus spares...

I all honesty I just like reading the magazines as was intended though I do appreciate that this both could damage the publication in time and restrict obviously the content to an audience of one. Dunno... I still find stuff in them that I find very interesting and useful and I wouldn't want to be without all my magazines.

This is a good magazine link -

I am definately upto the task of scanning anything Amiga related.
I have knocked out most of the US/Canada publications.
I just received copies of the missing AmiGadget magazines and almost all Amiga News (newspaper print stlye) and an issue of AmigoTimes 1.10 that I didn't know existed.
Lots more to come.

I found about 45 issues of CU Amiga today (100% complete but as Mort scanned many badly as usual I'm hoping I can fix that and replace the blurry/warped pages of affected issues) and 25ish of Amiga Format.
I am only about 10 issues short of completing Amiga Power. Sadly few people are willing to donate ST/Amiga mags to scan and ebay are a company I will never use again. FEEL FREE TO DONATE CD32 GAMER/Amiga Power mags :) btw I don't destroy them for sheet fed scanner, I can flatbed scan nicely too if you want them back.
Found a few CVGs from the AGA years too (ie after issue 126)
Decent scans (quality of magazine condition and resolution improvement) of the first 3 years of ZZAP64 coming soon too. After Rignal and Penn left ZZAP went downhill fast AFAIC so not replacing the rest.
Sad to say ALL my scans in future will be watermarked with "illegal counterfeit ebay sale" too sorry. Currently doing that on my History of Computer + Video Games supplement book I finished scanning.
Oh and I hope the guy who won the VIC Computing mags last month scans them or lets us scan them :)
(not really of interest but I have located a complete donor set of ST Format but 1000s of miles away! But promised them sometime this year)

Yeah, I remember how excited I got, when an Amazing Computing issue had a "This Old Workbench" story. I loved trying to mod all my various amigas, using stuff he would. LOL! Never a fan of New Icons, until 3.9. Always used MWB, 'cos of This Old Workbench.

I should have Amiga Shopper scanned, OCR'd and available at RetroPDFs (http://retropdfs.wordpress.com) in the next few weeks. Watch this space :)

Thanks! Just to clarify, I haven't actually scanned most of the mags on the site so far - I've collected them from around the Interweb, done some minimal clean up a handful of the images and then OCR'd them all. The aim wasn't simply to rehost other's work; I was trying to create my own locally-searchable repository of all the old mags already scanned.
My hat comes off to all those who've scanned mags; I'm currently ploughing through 71 issues of Amiga Shopper, and it's a slow, soul-destroying process ... but it's all worth it to be able to bang a search term into Spotlight and have it find just the article you were looking for :)
-
I love amiga mag, not having much money as a kid it was a highlight getting a monthly copy of Amiga Format playing around with the lastest demos and software usually wishing I could buy all the software and games I read about in the mag.
Back I think in 2000, when I bought a second hand Amiga, the guy gave me his HUGE collection of Amiga mags, nearly all mint condition, it was great reading all the early issues, and kinda of funny when reading like reviews of the first 68030 and 040 and how much power and speed they gave the Amiga, and my Amiga was more powerful than that.

I would love to see scans of JAM. Jeff Walker was one of the greatest Amiga writers.

Great news, Shopper was one of my favourites. Still amazed nobody has done Amiga Format yet after all these years, it was the most popular Amiga mag by far, yet seems to be the most scarce on-line nowadays!

Would be very nice to have this fantastic magazine preserved for the future... I was searching for them for years now, without success. If you finish scanning them and bring them online for all, you'll be my god forever :)

My first post here and already I'm begging for a bit of help............apologies to all!!
Does anyone have any other links to Amiga Format mag downloads as i'm desperately trying to get the full collection. I've looked at AMR (good site) but they're not the full ones, and various others like bombjack etc., but I'm still missing a shedload.
Thanks!!
