Title: Where's amigaworld.net?
Post by: Marky_D_Sahd on January 08, 2004, 04:24:41 PM
I haven't been able to log in since yesterdday afternoon.  Any news??

(I hate these "Chicken Little-the sky is falling" threads.  I know it's only some kind of error or breakdawn.  I just want to know when's it going to get fixed?)

1. A server admin ####ed up a vital area of the filesystem yesterday.

2. Support compounded the error.

3. We are waiting for one of their engineers to put it back in recovery mode.

4. Once that has done we can bring the website back on line, then repair the rest of the damage.

Anyway, latest is they are working on it at least, so it shouldnt be much longer.

Dave.

I think the sky did actually fall.  But only specifically on the amigaworld.net server, and perhaps most of the admins all huddled around it in a meeting.

But my sources are ann.lu and moo bunny :-D

and there're plenty inhabiting those particular sites who are the kind who dance on graves!!

Funny thing, back in 1992 it was MS that attracted the major derission . . . . . what CBM sinking and 12 years passing has done to change perspectives????????

With Amigaworld.net down it makes me feel like there's something missing in my web experience... I find myself browsing to the downed site again and again almost without thinking about it like I'm not done if I don't get my AW dose.

Get the stuff back together in a hurry plz, this addict needs his fix! :-D

Just waiting for support to remove the recovery media and reboot ( been waiting an hour now, can't get the staff these days ).

Thanks to amiga.org for continuing to allow us to communicate with our userbase, it really is appreciated.

Regards

Dave.

PS: Just another two weeks ;-)
PPS: When its done. :roflmao:
PPPS: No buckhoe involved :-P
PPPPS: No I wasn't the admin mentioned ;-)

Thanks Dave... I was also wondering what was going on.   I started to email DaveyD then realized that he wouldn't get it anyway.  :)  I figured that someone would eventually post what was going on.

Problems and downtime isn't reserved to AW.net.  We might have base philosophical differences related to the Amiga, but there's no reason that we can't be civil.

@Wayne

Thank you very much :-)

Just got it more or less back, every concievable nightmare to deal with along the way so if anyone wants to share server warstories I now have another one.

Good luck with your upgrade/migration/maint :-)

Regards

Dave, knackered, gone midnight, with an early start at work tomorrow.

@Wayne:

It's good to know that, when the chips are down, we can put aside our petty differences and help each other out.

I value things like this way more than the latest announcement from Genesi or Hyperion.  The latest and greatest software or hardware to come out won't matter in the slightest if there are too few of us left.
