Title: Apollo 060: Death by carpet?
Post by: XDelusion on November 30, 2011, 07:44:35 PM
So I dropped my expensive ass Apollo 060 on the carpet...

Now neither 1200 will boot with it in. I reseated the RAM, presses all chips down, etc. Still nothing...

Any ideas?

You have super high pile that holds a static charge in a real arrid envionment or what? Kooky, but a one in a million chance if that's what took it out.

I know its not funny really but i couldn't help but :roflmao:especially at the thread title.

This is the sort of thing that would happen to me :)

If you dropped it on the floor maybe you should try throwing it in the air to reverse its fortunes :roflmao:

There's also the possibility it hit just right and loosened up a solder joint somewhere, either way, some luck.

Have you looked for any tiny cracks in the visible traces? It's really unfortunate, but it could be static as someone else said, either from the carpet, or from you when you picked it back up...

Dang, I hope it can be fixed. I can offer no more advice than what is here, except expensive miggy gear and carpets don't mix...

I tell ya, if i have to handle my Blizzard '060 for any reason, I have 2 anti-static wrist straps on, and throw salt over my shoulder!

Good luck, hope you get it sorted out...

Maybe Stachu will look at it for me?

I need to write him after work. He's good with these things.

The sad part is that this card was supposed to be part of my trade with Amiduffer for his 3G and 4k. :/

Assuming its a 1260, then it could be the crystal is loose, since these did not come soldered down from the factory.  If thats the case then plugging the board into the A1200 and powering up can damage the cpu permanently.  It happened to me, and I had to send it to PG for repairs.  It now runs at 40 mhz-still quick.

so xdelusion, did you manage to revive your card or was it truly murdered by the carpet? :roflmao:

If the card remains dead does this mean you will have the old carpet removed for committing such a crime :)

Vlabguy1's still looking at it, but yes, I do believe the carpet is going to be burned no matter the final outcome! :)
