Title: WhdLoad issue
Post by: dougal on November 24, 2011, 07:04:20 PM
I replaced my A1200 170mb hard drive with a 20GB.

It is setup as a 4GB with FFS. I installed WHDload, but for some reason a few games are not loading, as in they get stuck on the WHDload credit screen (where it says the quit key, credits, registered info etc..)

The thing is that if i run these games from the PCMCIA CF card they run fine with no problems. They might work once every 5 times of HD but everytime from card.

I tried re-installing WHDLoad but no luck. I am using WHDloa 16.9.

I have not installed IDEFIX97 yet. Maybe it needs that?

sounds like the old >4Gb snafu again. Is the FFS you used new enough to get you over that hump?

ah bbond007, you got there just before me :), that's what i was thinking.

I had similar problems with the maxtransfer rate a month or so ago.

Same issue I had with my 1200. Set the max transfer and it worked like a charm. Though I did smash my head against the wall a few times forgetting to push return when setting the values lol. Did wonder why it wasn't keeping the values.

Just set the max transfer on the Games partition.. seems to have done the trick.  :)

Thanks guys

Oh one more thing... should i do it for the other partitions like System & Work ?

I would do. Just then your limiting the amount of layers your having to go through when troubleshooting. Also remember to hit return when making the alterations lol. I can't stress that as I have forgot to do that and it's not stored any changes.

Yep I remembered that part of hitting return. I'll do all the partitions then.

Everything seems to be working great now :)

Cheers guys

The Amiga really forces you to get back to basics with computing. So much I had forgotten but then comes flooding back with it.

Yeah, and yet I forgot to remind him of the pressing enter part.

Damn.. did it again.

Just copied Aladdin from PC to CF. Ran fine of CF.

Copied to HD and it gets stuck. HD light on and blue window of WHDLoad.

Tried re-copying it from CF to HD but still the same.

Are you running the cf in the Amiga or emulation? Have you downloaded a disk tool to check the mechanical had is not faulty. If not I would grab one off aminet and just allow it to do a check for any bad sectors ECT.

It might be a physical fault with the disk causing these issues now. So you need to rule this out.

Everything is being run in the Amiga. Its strange, its morning now.. I had a go and Aladdin loaded no problem off hard drive.

Do you recommend any particular disk tool for me to download to check the HD? I downloaded DiskSalv from Aminet.

Dougal, I have an unrelated WHDLoad issue... next time Aladdin messes up on you, can you re-boot and post here any Tooltypes you see in the icon (the .info file) for it?

Got some odd 'phantom tooltype' issues after upgrading to the newest WHDLoad... Real live registered, PAID-FOR keyfile, BTW.

dougal did you get the HDD issue sorted?
Did you manage to find a tool to check it?

Been thinking about this today and the more I think about it the more physical HDD fault springs to mind.

I wrote a manual about WHDLoad AND Igame Front end GUI.

Maybe it will help. http://www.amigascene.nl/modules/artikelen/docs/igame-AMO-v1_2.pdf

By the way WHDLAOD version 17.0 has been released a while ago.
